Enjoy the "Shoegaze kid hangs out with his metal cousin for the weekend" aspect of some Ulver and prefer this track to the other in the round..Second track is much more fun musically than the other Undertones offering, but still don't dig the vocals..Vote A

What kind of complete legend would pick an Ulver track for the preludin cup? Prettier than the other one, wasn't it, because of that nice smooth vocal. Admittedly, it goes a bit Manowar after the acoustic break, without the vocals it's a bit chuggity-chug-chug towards the end, and it doesn't end as majestically as the previous one. But most of you didn't listen that far to either, so you'll never know.
B is of course one of The Undertones better tracks, but that's also faint praise. Less than 2 minutes, and goes on a bit. Just not cool enough a pick to earn an abstain, but since you've won anyway, who gives one?

Os pretty much nailed exactly how i feel about this match. B is nice, FS's voice doesn't grate as much; but then the vocals in A are MUCH better than the previous Ulver track, and the pick is a fine surprise.

Ulver's drummer should worry more about playing the tune and less about his fucking double kick-drum pedal and stupid fills that rarely work. I hate shit like that. Luckily for them they're up against another shit Undertones song. You'd think that if you were trying to make a fun, poppy sub-two minute song about summer, you might want to at least try to make your vocals somewhat intelligible. Fuck that guy.

A sounds like some Norse saga of betrayal and revenge in the perma-gloom of a crazed, hairy princeling's dank and far-flung septentrional demesne, all crammed into 8 minutes.
B is short and sweet by comparison, just like a Northern Irish summer.

Garm's clean vocals are on the other Ulver track as well, but yeah, putting them right at the start of the this opening track definitely feels like a statement against black metal orthodoxy at the time. They'd soon discover Aphex Twin and change direction completely.
B is just a bit too repetitive, even for its length. I like the youthful vibrancy but I could say the same for a lot of this kind of stuff.

Rather 8 minutes of Ulver than 30 of bue note jazz, or 30 seconds of some of the 'folk' offerings that have polluted my ears in this cup. That said, this is pretty repetitive until the sudden switches around the 5.50 mark, with the burst of proper old skool guitar noise at six and a half minutes lifting the whole track.
B is a single I own and was very fond of, and as noted by others, it makes its point then departs quickly. But then again, so does Jerry Keller's big hit, and that has a better selection of words, while Jonathon Richman owns songs celebrating the season. And the last 1.49 of A are more interesting and less repetitive than this.

Ulver
I yearn to listen to the UK Subs again.
Undertones
Them at their most swing-your-pants.
Let it gurn.

Loved A even better than the previous Ulver track. Not much love for the undertones here or for summer generally it just means hours of gardening, hay fever, and wasps. Why the fuck would you want to sing about it?

Elton Duck and Los Lobos win!
Radiators and Undertones lose!
Umm...OK.
What could possibly happen next?
