I'm really hungry and won't be able to eat for at least another hour or so.

A is obviously very Velvety, yet strangely lifeless withal. B is ace! Pick of the round. B

A's not bad at all but it's got no chance against the U S of A.

Here's a real turn-up - two tracks that I actually own... I considered UVS (along with Unrest, Urge Overkill and the USA for this cup - U wasn't as much a problem for me as it seems for many others), although I would perhaps have chosen something more visceral than this thoroughly likeable lope-along track.
Hat to disagree with Dayodead, but, like the cool 20-year-old I was at the time, I bought the USA album when it was released in the UK precisely because it most of it sounded nothing like everything else from the time 1968/9: no guitars for a start, and all those modulated electronic noises and primitive synths, along with songs about socialism and male hookers in New York. Hard Coming Love was a little less out there as a song, but this alternative version - released on a single this century with a longer, louder intro by Mr Marron and his electric violin, clattering drums and bouncing fretless bass, sounds as alien and exciting as the contemporary VU albums, and lord knows, Dorothy Moskowitz has a more interesting singing style than Nico.
Sorry A, nice pick, but I like B a bit better

I hear more of Neu in A than the Velvets. I liked the freaky jam better though.

UVS
‘S ok. There were a slew of these VU-apers at the time (eg The Perfect Disaster) and this is an undeniably decent stab.
US of A
Still a tributary of psych that was never really properly built upon (probs difficult to build on a tributary what with all of that H2O getting involved).
