Always liked UVS. Fey but cool and catchy too. This one's pretty good.
But it's no match for
B
- think I prefer the album version, there's too much going on here. But it's still great.

i find usa a bit hit and miss. this one falls into the latter. not a fan of the sax (or whatever it is) and like JC says, there's too much going on.
i've liked most of what i've heard from uvs and this is no exception. i like the vu feel to it.

This round is way better than the previous one, so far. I like both, but I’ll go with A

Hmm, this is some kind of awkward belated new-wave, with the dreadful vocal stylings of baggy thrown in. I guess you could say there was something innovative about that proto-bagginess, but the vocals were the worst thing about the genre. Something about this track just sets my teeth on edge, there's not much there, other than a dated casio stab and that forced-insouciance of the vocal.
Garage rock stylings, and skope doesn't approve? Next thing you know he'll be voting for black metal and techno mash-ups. I like the fingernails-down-blackboard violin, its more the bass that I'm not sure on. It's got a bit of jazzy swagger though, the vocals have some attitude, and the electronics are bloody annoying. Certainly a more successful piece of music in its own right than A though.

A had me at that twangy “prairie rose” type thing. I like the weird flourishes in the other but think A is the superior track.

Unfamiliar with UVS. This has a nice narcotic haze to it, but needs a bit more variation. 3 and a half minutes shouldn't seem like 7. I hear the Velvets influence, certainly, but the Velvets had so much more sonic range.
B in its released version is easily my favorite USA song - not even close. One of the masterpieces of the psych era all-told. This one is indeed a bit busy, I agree, but it has enough of the elements I love - that ring modulator stuff is particularly insane - that it still easily gets my vote.

I see the historic importance of the USA and the innovation they were bringing, but when it comes to the song there is not much there. Even so it starts nicely and I like better the sound of the violin in this version. But those pauses along the song don't do any good. And the electronic noises at the end are just a curio for being done in 1968.
A is much more my thing, a well crafted slice of pop that works like a precision mechanism with those beeps and twangs at exactly the right place.

A has all the elements in place - motorik beat, druggy Stones slide, vocalist with too cool for school drawl. Just a shame they forgot to write a song. I wouldn't have gone with this track from B. But like pretty much everything they did, it is at least interesting with enough ideas to spread across five albums. If nothing else, I can always enjoy the performance of Dorothy Moskowitz (it's nice to hear her voice untreated), one of the great forgotten vocal talents of the era.

A was a bit too 'Madchester' in its stylings. Shitty.
B was a new thing for me. the vocals I could take or leave, but the music could have been grafted from a Mothers album, so it gets a big tick from me.

I like the album version better too, but it's B, no contest!

I like some of the UVS stuff..Here, once you get past the "Gordon Gano's little brother" vocals, the music is good..Not sure what to make of the second track..Listened to it three times now and still do not find what's interesting about it..Sounds like everything else from the period..
