Dave Cousins dials the Feargal-ator™ up to 11 and sets his hippies to maximum Rock-Out for this blast of hairy barefoot mayhem, while the Durutti Column vibe out with their glum "I can't even move my lips to sing" brand of minimalist tunesmithery and everyone is miserable and goes home from round 'D' to contemplate suicide.

I'll go with the vile glum. B I like the gargly vocals on the Cousins and the gweetar put some hair on my chest but it's just kinda meh.

Hmm, looks like Dave got his Witchfinder General costuime all wrong in that picture. This is pretty nondescript rock again, I have no idea what you do with this stuff. It doesn't seem to have any depth of emotion to listen to, or any kind of energy to get the old adrenaline flowing. A dartboard hung in a beer garden.
I can't possibly imagine who'd pick a Durutti Column track in a cup, but I guess he must be kinda blue. I never understood the appeal of Vini either, really. I mean, I can guess this is closer to my kind of thing, and I can see why you might lay back and listen to this for a short while, but at the back of my mind I keep thinking of Chris Rea playing at the wrong speed. Which in Chris Rea's case is actually any speed.

I suppose with the Strawbs obsession I'm still working my way through in that 'other place,' it's obvious that I'm gonna vote for A here, and for what it's worth I really seem to have completely different ears from other folks here. This one sounds loaded with emotion, and features some of his best singing as well. Self-examination over fairies and hobbits. This is as intense and incendiary as any postmodern hoohah you wanna throw at me.
Don't have a problem with 'the other' DC, in fact I quite like him/them, here's the old phrase "for what it is," but it doesn't come close.

A was hackneyed 70s rock, as uninspired as it gets. I'm amazed that any one would pick this.
You either really like Vini Reilly's thing or you don't. He doesn't have a lot of range - guitar lines rising and falling while drenched in echo is pretty much the template for everything he does, but, although I think he has better tracks, I find it rather beautiful. A drifting thing of fragile sadness.

A is wildly over-egging it on the lead guitar front. Maybe that’s the point?

Wow, a fuckin' great tie to finish a lousy round. Loved both. I like what I've heard from both acts before but neither are often on my playlist, probably I should revise that.
The DC track has his typical repetitive and minimalistic approach but the subtle changes here and there all along the tune keep my interest when I start to think it goes to long.
I love A exactly for all the things that previous posters have said against it, especially the hairy bits. This kind of music gets always unfairly slaughtered in this neck of woods. I'll give it some love.

No problem here for me, I've always loved the strawbs and Dave cousins solo job has always been a firm favorite, although, having read toomanyhatz splendid thread on BCB, it would appear that cuddly, affable Dave is something of an ass- wipe. Still, that has nothing to do with this cup and I've got no strong feelings about B so it's

Great match, guys!!
I really dig B's hypnotic qualities, but prefer A's full-on approach.
(besides I've recently revisited and thoroughly enjoyed Two Weeks Last Summer thanks to hatz' write-up in the other place)
