Dirty Beaches is boring and the video makes me want to burn down an art college. Death's sub-BÖC ruckus probably should've remained "lost", but at least they're trying...

I enjoy saying nice things about DEATH as much as the next guy but I've gotta go A by virtue of that solid groove that goes all the way through. I will offer to hold Colin Occupants beer while he burns down that Art College. Am I turning into an old fuddy-duddy? that's another video I can do without.

One of the better Death songs. I could swear I picked it in a previous cup, in fact. Weren't me this time...
Anyway, don't much care for the other song OR vid. Trying so hard to make an impression that it leaves me cold. So B it is.

A evokes its urban nightmare all too well. Were Death proto-punk or simply a rather inept hard rock band? This isn't the lost classic people want it to be, but it's okay.

A is very Cabaret Voltaire circa 1979 isn't it? It's definitely sonically my kind of thing, but to do such a painstaking recreation of a point in time is a bit Oasis, isn't it? It's pleasant enough, but doesn't inspire me.
I've studiously avoided Death, because every time I hear of a band who were "punk before punk", they were never very punk, or very good. This is more NWOBHM before it was British or new, isn't it? Which is ... heavy metal. Still, it's got an energy about the vocal and guitar that appeals, it could definitely fit on Iron Maiden's debut without being offensive. And in this world, that's a good thing, apparently.

A is non-entity. Who is picking this stuff? I mean what's the point?
B is one of these overrated "buried treasure" things.

Uff, after the relief of D6 we're back in piss poor tie territory. By now all of my followers know that there's no way I'm gonna vote for A. Not that I get any pleasure in listening to the other pick ...

Close. I like A more than most, and although this is yet another example of this cup's tradition of choosing the wrong song, B is good enough.
I'll give it to
A

Don't know what to make of this, tbh. Can't think of anything useful, or indeed useless, to say.
I flirted with Death earlier this century, DLed their album after others on forums mentioned them - completely slipped by me at the time. Fwiw I listened to them then as black guys playing metal, rather than punk precursors, and see no reason to change my mind after listening to this track. Not bad, and the long instrumental outro lifts it several notches. An easy winner in the end
