You're confusing it with A Field in England...same director.

Not much to add about A. The Neil version absolutely fucking kills me to the point I don’t play it that often.
I haven’t heard B for years and quite liked it at the time so let’s see how it holds up… yes, I still like it. It’s a wry comment on the impossibility of doing a decent road trip in Britain, isn’t it? Finally the penny drops!

I think i like B a bit more, the sound of A doesn't really do it for me.

A does sound dated and I wouldn't want to hear it again but it sure beats B

i get the criticism of A. it is very earnest. however, it beats the 80s crap out of B.

Ian
I like the melody if not the performance.
It’s
There’s something about Liverpool bands post Zoo and pre-La’s, a naivety, a willingness to look a bit silly in the pursuit of new sounds. It nearly never works (a few China Crisis songs do) and I’m not that bothered about this but it’ll do because it NEEDS SOME LOVE

Remember this from when it came out, and even then it sounded dated. I have issues around the voices - not that they're bad, not at all - but they seem to pull against each other. Ian on his own sounds fine. I haven't heard the Neil Young version that I remember - probably on one of those crap acoustic troubadour albums - but I can imagine him singing it and making a better fist of it, even if he's technically a worse singer than either of them, because it's a doleful song and does dole well.
All of which is irrelevant, because in passing rare alignment with G, I always loved this single, the atmosphere, the guitar playing, the skipping beat, the harp, the humour of applying the tropes of an American road song to this tiny island, the vocals.

BI make this 7-12. I assume it's Osgood (Ian) Neige ( its). can you confirm. Cheers Ray.
