(I reckon this is supposed to be I10 and not I0, unless this shows how Ray feels about the tie)
B sounds familiar from a previous cup, doesn't it? Anyway it's a bit silly and insubstantial, pity the harp is not a bit higher in the mix to have something else happening.
A is great to this ears, probably NY version with Nicolette Larson would be more friendly to today's taste as Ian's singing sounds dated, but Sylvia's harmonies are heavenly.

Agree with os about the male vocal in A - that old-fashioned, church-y style doesn't endear you to the version. But it's SUCH a lovely song.
Quite a lot of people talk up the It's Immaterial track, don't they? I've never got it myself - the talk-vocal is just daft and there isn't really a whole lot else there.

A feels wholesome and sincere in a way that makes it a bit of a relic. I didn't mind it, but I've no idea what I'm meant to do with it. Whoever picked the II track obviously didn't read John's One Hit Wonder thread because I nominated it there and it got absolutely slagged. Lots of the usual dismissive comments about the 80s etc even though there's nothing overtly 80s in its production - indeed it's quite restrained and organic sounding. Really enjoy the chirpiness of the harmonica (apparently by a well known US player who they came across by chance playing in a hotel band). I also like the dryly warm narration and the way an air of melancholy underpins the whole thing, the decline of the industrial north and all that, without it being stated in any obvious way. Because of this the record manages to be both light-hearted but also moving at the same time.

Both of these acts have other songs, don't they?
OK, I don't know if Ian ever wrote a better one than A. But it's still more than obvious.
Fortunately it's up against a one-hit wonder's one hit, so it doesn't hurt it too much. I like the harmonica, and the song is pleasant enough. Nothing quite engaging me either.
I love the harmony blend of I&S, too. In fact I'm not sure the Neil version is any better.

Punk's not dead. What are we meant to do with this? Val Doonican's granddad on his best behaviour.
Another piss-poor tie this, did everyone run out of ideas with I? (To be fair, I did). Chris Rea.

B reminds of the Nits a little bit, but it's just too silly to take seriously with its "oh, do you want to drive over here? Or we could drive over there? Or howabout that way?"
I agree with what others have said about Ian Tyson's voice, but it's such a lovely song regardless.

A is a nice find, but B has been a constant companion for so long now...

What others have said. A is a great song but the Neil Young version is beautiful.
B is like something you'd hear a pub band in Doncaster sing. Pretty humdrum.

B because Jupiter aligns with Mars. too much echo on the vocal if I nitpick but I like the whole mood of it.
