The intro to this really reminds me of Front 242 circa 83/84, it has the exact same synth tone as their Geography album. It's leaning towards Jools Holland approved polite modern integration of dance and afrobeat, but there's also something quite catchy and warm-hearted about it. I love the more up-front vocal stylings when they kick in.
One for the yoof market, huh? More in the Daniel Johnston vein, albeit the eccentric Glaswegian version. There's nothing particularly witty or incisive about the lyrics, but its one of those stlye of niaive songs I'm going to start pretentiously calling "little capsules of humanity", and you can hate me for it. Warm, and kind of lovely. Good pick.

Beware of bands with "Sound Machine" in their name. They're almost always up to no good. Would love to hear the singer in A without all the bleepblorpbloop behind her. Time signature: 1/4. I don't take E and I don't frequent dance clubs, so...not my scene, maaaan.
Had I thought of it, I would have been hoping to see some Ivor here. I pretty much love everything he does, so not really much to add here, other than I probably would've preferred something older and a bit less...up close, but his surreal doggerel always charms.
Easy, easy B.

I adore Ivor Cutler. He's shaky and emotional here rather than jaunty and comic but that's not a point against him - it's just a little different. I did listen to a bit of A, but....sorry.

I quite like A, but it is very generic. I must have heard hundreds of things that sounded like this in clubs over the years. I agree with DF about the Cutler selection. There's something very warm and touching to it.

It doesn't get much more endearing than Ivor Cutler. Sorry to the dance party jam of A, but B gets this quite easily.

It pains me to vote against Ivor, that true British original.
but A is totally new to me and much more exciting.

well, I love the first one. I don't even mind the synth horns (and I usually do!!) But, as much as I enjoy it, there's nothing like someone who is singing a song they care about.

Another good match. Like both, but A's mix of sounds is quite appealing, the kind of thing that doesn't get enough love. The production lets it down a bit, but musically it's cool. B makes me smile, lovely, but...

I've seen A a couple of times at festivals,4or5 years ago and on a warm afternoon they're pleasant enough but there's not enough in it for me.
Ivor Cutler is familiar to me, he's been around for decades and I feel bad to admit that his charm has always eluded me.
