Wow, two brave picks! A is 'clever', possibly on the verge of overly so, but wins me over in the end. I suppose one could say that Queen, Bowie, the entire New Romantic movement, glam, and a whole lot more would not be possible without B. I'll let others decide whether that's a positive or negative, but I'm grateful that it's not necessary to stay within the last half-century to find music that's still creating ripples up to the present. And it's a good song besides. If that's B's point, then good for them. But for that matter, if their point is "music existed before 1965," then also good for them.

Can't really enjoy the see saw melody and smug vocal of A. I find this kind of 90s rock really lacking in flavour and character. Musically B isn't really my thing, although I do like the Ertha Kitt version, but it's an interesting pick. It's amazing really that Coward was so open about his sexuality back then. I did see a Julian Clary documentary about him quite recently, but I can't remember what they said about this song. Was it scandalous?
Anyway....B

I was expecting to hear Neko Case again on A but apparently she was just on the background. In any case I liked it and I need now to check this record.
I'll spare any comment on B.

A brought me out in a rash. A hideous noise.
I never liked Coward's voice but he was an interesting figure and this is a genuinely interesting and entertaining pick.

A is like marshmallow peeps - sickeningly sweet and insubstantial B is a brave left field choice -- it's not my kind of music, but it's outside the box.

although I do like the Ertha Kitt version Got the wrong artist there, the version I'm thinking of is by Dinah Washington.

i think the coward track demeans the cup. if i had selected A i'd be fuming to see so many votes go against me.

A was awful. Like an American Squeeze.
I’ll give it to B. Pride etc

Reminds me of that Barenaked Ladies kind of smug/geeky vocal styling which seem to think they're cleverer and catchier than they actually are. But there is a bit of a hook, and some nice guitar work to rescue it. The drummng is better than on that No Means No track, too.
More mannered witty vocalising, huh? I guess this lyrically might be groundbreaking or somefink, but I don't really care, to be honest.

Jeezus, 2 in a row - i'm pretty much with Fishy on both these. I almost can't bring myself to vote for a song with a title like that, but...

Disappointed with the new pornographers, I'd liked the slow descent into alcoholism, meant to check out more of their stuff but didn't know what to make of this. However, fonz pointed out the similarity to Squeeze which completely killed it for me.
There's no way I would ever vote for coward so it's
Abstain.
