It's hard to get massively excited about The Arctic Monkeys, isn't it. I mean they have a singer who's quite distinctive and probably Jarvis inspired (the way that "can I hold you very tightly, please..." plays with the metre), but they always have him really high in the mix, and the band behind are quite uninspiring.
Cornerstone is the best track here, and Flourescent Adolescent is the worst, as it wants to be a Madness B-side.

Honestly, the best Turner did was the Shadow Puppets.

Honestly, the best Turner did was the Shadow Puppets. I'm glad he made that album in the 00's. It was the peak of his songwriting powers and he wasn't confined by the limitations of AM. Calm Like You is a highlight. But I applaud them for trying to get out of their box on the last album.

I've never listened past their first album - well, only a couple of tunes off of it, tbh - and I hadn't realised they'd started taking themselves so seriously. It's all kind of boring, isn't it?
I used to have this tune on an old ipod (not sure why or how it doesn't live in my itunes library anymore...) which I used to think was good fun:
