I read this silly sci/fi book called "Rabbits". I enjoyed it. it was one of those "multitple reality" things. I thought the ending was a little weak but it was a fun read and that's just what I needed.
something happened.
the book involves "conspiracies" and mentions several supposedly famous cases. one of these hit me upside the head like a 2 by 4. "The Berenstein Bears Conspiracy"
when I was growing up, my Mom got us every "I Can Read It All By Myself" book from a mail order club. we had dozens of the damned things. with God as my witness, several of these were "The Berenstein Bears by Jan & Dan Berenstein". well, here's the WTF part. Look them up. Their name is jan and Dan BerenSTAIN! it's the BerenSTAIN bears and it always HAS been the BerenSTAIN bears.
well, this freaks me the fuck out. you get out your lie detector test and ask me who wrote the BerenSTAIN bears and I will FAIL. I don't know about BerenSTAIN.I've only recently heard of them. I had Berenstein Bears books for years. honest to God.
how about you? are YOU losing your faith in objective reality? if so, please share. I could use the company.

It gets worse, Snee - those books were actually by STAN and Jan Berenstain.
(My family just had one - The Bike Lesson. It got a lot of love.)

I read that loads of those to both kids. We must have had 10 of them between the two kids. Re: your conundrum, it would have been better if they were named BEARenstain. Stein, stain - who cares?

I actually thought this was about the Joseph Heller novel (before opening the thread obviously.
I like Joseph Heller novels. The ones I've read anyway. It's been an awfully long time though.
Sorry. Please carry on.

that's a great novel! I was going to call the thread "Whacked Like Me" but I thought of many reasons not to.

Maybe a month or so ago, I had my own version of this phenomenon when I discovered the album I'd believed was called A Wizard/A True Star since 1973 - one of the most important records of my life - has apparently always been called A Wizard, A True Star. No forward slash, but a comma. I had encountered that version of the title before, but I always assumed it was a mistake! But I looked at the Discogs listing for the album, and they seem to all have the comma - on LP, CD, cassette, 8-track. All of 'em.
This came to mind again now because I'm going through the list of Record Store Day releases on their website, and one of them is this album ("140g multi-colored cloudy psychedelic effect vinyl" oooohhh). On the RSD site it's called A Wizard/A True Star.
50 years later and Todd's still fucking with my head.
