It does, yeah. A little toilet and kitchenette there - self-contained. The place really is too big for me. But it's not much more expensive than much smaller places. And she said she'd probably take less than the asking price. You could use the extra rooms for your stable of bitches. JOHN!

I like this new one. Backyards aren't English folks' things are they? Except for Ray. I don't think they're unusual. Your classic old Coronation Street houses all have backyards. Not sure how many of those are still around. Probably quite a lot. A month or so ago, Griff kept posting pics of his landscaping efforts. It looked like he moved some pots around. He seemed proud of it.

I saw this place today. The old woman who lives there is lovely, we talked for an hour. www.zoopla.co.uk/for-sale/details/47341863If it's still on the market when we've sold this place, I might make an offer. It's a fucking LISTED building! Do not buy a listed building. I repeat. DO NOT BUY A LUSTED BUILDING. I’m not an expert, but listed buildings have all sorts of restrictions when it comes to doing any sort of renovation. Bumps up the cost of maintenance etc You might have dodged a bullet. I could be wrong though.

I asked her about all that and she told me about windows and other external things BUT she also said that grants are available for general upkeep and alterations.

Make sure you research it properly. The whole building structure will have relatively strict restrictions on what and how you can do alterations-not just the externals.
I wouldn’t set any store in any grants being available, either. They would likely be discretionary, so you’d be at the mercy of ‘The Man’. Fuck that shit. Too many unknowns.
All I’m saying is that it could be a really expensive albatross or millstone or something.

I've looked at quite a few more places in Whitehaven over the last few weeks. The more you see, the more you get to know. It's cheap to buy here and things move slowly. I'm worried about noise. Having quiet is really important to me. I've lived in a lot of flats over the years and sadly it's not unusual to get thudding from upstairs neighbours, or music from next door. Walls can be thin. I'm in a flat right now and there's a kid upstairs who likes to jump about sometimes. It makes one fuck of a noise in my flat, and you never know when it's coming. I've been upstairs twice - first time she denied all knowledge, second time 'he's a kid - what can you do?'. I suppose the truth is that unless you live in a completely detached house, there's always going to be some extraneous noise. How can you find out before you buy? It's a tough one. I think I might have to ask about staying in the place for a week or so to judge noise levels before I make an offer. If they're reasonable people, they should agree to that. I mean - buying a place is a big fucking deal, right?

Go round the neighbours. "Hi, I'm John, I'm thinking of buying, what's the block like?...".
You want home owners, not tenants. Naturally I would go for the older the better as less noise probably.

I bought a semi detached house with ZERO neighbour noise. We weren't sure even sure we had neighbours for about 6 months. But it is a very old house, maybe that explains it.

When we bought our house, one of the questions I wished I'd asked is the percentage of owners vs. renters in the neighborhood. Renters don't give a fuck.

Just one week left in my old Whitehaven abode. I've got the rented flat in Edinburgh, but I don't want to stay there much longer. We're actually handing over the property on the 15th, so from that date I'll have a fair bit of cash in the bank for the first time in my life. It makes the stress and the sadness a little more easy to deal with. But I'd really much rather hang on to the old house. Ho hum. Anyway - still looking to buy locally. This place looks OK www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-86428490.htmlNot the best area of the town, but the fact that it's a bungalow and is completely detached appeals greatly.

It's got a nice big sink to dump your plates in.
