Not sure what to make of this, is it commentary on the pandemic? I blame Mellencamp, despite being on an artistic roll as he ages, his work is mostly melancholic and death obsessed. Springsteen's voice sounds weak (sounds like Warren Zevon), and he usually is more upbeat, we all know things have been sh%t, thanks for telling us? I expected better and more. (As a pre-empt I don't expect the Brits to be into this.)

I thought you'd never see Mellencamp and Springsteen together in one place or the magnetic poles of the earth would switch or something.
I agree, what's the point?
I've mentioned this before, but I was dragged to a Mellencamp concert by a friend who really liked him and it still ranks as one of the five best shows I've ever seen. He was touring Nothing Matters and What if It Did in 1980 which is the last time I really paid attention to anything he's done.

Is it a commentary on the pandemic? I'm not so sure. I enjoyed that even if I am British....

This is his most recent original work, Carlene's presence lifts it from being downbeat.
John Mellencamp/Carlene Carter: Battle Of Angels
(oh, and there is a very bitter Bowie/Main Man/DeVries connection)

Some background on the video, it for upcoming Mellencamp album. www.indianapolismonthly.com/longform/john-mellencamp-aint-even-doneFor now, however, Mellencamp is enjoying completing work on his new album and savoring his newfound friendship with Springsteen, who calls John his “little brother.” Their connection is particularly satisfying for him—he has often been dismissed as, in his own words, the “poor man’s Springsteen.” While they had known each other for years, they began to get close when Springsteen invited Mellencamp to perform at Sting’s Rainforest Fund benefit at the Beacon Theatre in 2019. They performed “Pink Houses” and “Glory Days” together and forged a bond that has grown surprisingly strong. Or maybe it’s not so surprising after all.
“Listen, I’ll just flat-out say it: I love Bruce,” Mellencamp says. “I love him like a brother. I feel very fortunate to have found a colleague and a good friend in him. This should have happened years ago.”

But everyone concurrent with him had to avoid being labeled the poor man's Springsteen: Petty, Seger, Mellencamp, meanwhile Steve Forbert gets the new Dylan label and it seems to have died as a label since.

Ron Sexsmith is this generation's Steve Forbert.
