Last man standing in that post-Beat Hollywood counterculture gang around Hopper in the late Sixties, early Seventies, and associated with some decent films, but, sad sack that I am, I remember him most for Quantum Leap.
RIP Al

absurdly talented. His Howard Hughes in "Tucker" was uncanny.
I'm glad he saw some big Network TV paydays but he'll always be " the boy with green hair" to me.
I saw that movie a lot growing up which maybe explains a lot about me.

He also co-wrote (with ex-Beefheart lyricist Herb Bermann) the screenplay After The Gold Rush - which didn't get filmed, but inspired a Neil Young album of the same name. Did some work with Neil later on, too (Human Highway).

I LOVED Quantum Leap. As a kid it was my favourite TV show and I watched it religiously. He was one of those actors who'd pop up in movies in small parts often but was always worth watching.
RIP AL.

I loved that camp little smile he gave after Frank said to him "You're so fucking suave".

That's the same look Coan gave me when I told him we were going to Hansa
