possibly a rite of passage for some?
anyway, some questions.
in true G stylee, i will come back to this thread later.
1. do you remember the first time? 2. best trip? 3. worst trip? 4. do you still take trips, if not, why not and when?

1. do you remember the first time? Speedy blotter acid. Made me very horny and fascinated with the stucco on the ceiling. 2. best trip? Supposedly good, old fashioned “whisk bottle” L-25 made just like the Little Old Acid-maker used to make it. I doubted this claim since it was the 80’s but Holy Shit that was a night to remember. My Bestie decided I needed the company of people. Now, 30 years later, I’m willing to admit he was right. I must have had huge Keene painting eyeballs because everyone was kind and delightful to me & the stars were connected to my brain. Mostly highs. 3. worst trip? I’ve been lucky. I ‘ve only tripped a handful of times. Mushrooms & purple micro-dots didn’t really agree with me. Mostly lows. 4. do you still take trips, if not, why not and when? Nah. I don’t even drink to get drunk. Same reasoning. As those who argue with me here know, I don’t always use the best judgement. I’m impaired enough as it is. I’m glad I had “the psychedelic experience” though. The stars ARE connected to the brain!

I too will probably come back later, but briefly
1 Yes, it was late 1970. Long ago lost count but must be around 200
2 can't do it - too many to disentangle
3 never had a wholly bad one, though some were differently good
4 last one I had was on my 60th birthday in 2008. Only reason I stopped is because I ran out of supplies and suppliers. Since then, all I've had is a couple of hits of Salvia divinorum. Not sure if I'd bother with taking one now, but I'd never close the door.

First time. Teeny tiny tab of orange sunshine cost me $3. Beautiful day. Staring up in sky while lying on the soft grass in the back yard of the guy who sold the stuff, Steve. I especially recall the trails left by the flying bugs creating visual chain reaction erupting into a glorious fountain of swirling clouds like the ceiling in a grand opera palace. Most beautiful thing I'd ever seen. Best. Worst. Started out great. Such fun I had looking in a mirror and watching my face change like a Peter Gabriel video and thinking I was a handsome guy. But then soon after my best friend slammed his arm through a window and had me nearly arrested for attempted murder. Would I again? Sure if I could. Tried that salvia stuff once. Most intense minute of my life. Never again - - maybe.

Trust your instinct! It ain’t for everybody. Frankly, i’m Amazed people still do psychedelics.I don’t think our modern world really lends itself to “the psychedelic experience”. Hard to control the environment.
I almost tried Ecstacy in the 90’s because it sounds like less speedy blotter acid. But I decided my time for that sort of thing had come and gone. I felt like an old guy in a speedo for even considering it.

I agree, but I think we are moving onto clinical therapeutic uses rather than random possible abuses: compasspathways.com/our-research/psilocybin-therapy/clinical-trials/treatment-resistant-depression/There are so many uses and potential once we get past the previous black and white mindset/approach: michaelpollan.com/books/this-is-your-mind-on-plants/It is only in our recent modern silliness that we abused it out of the context of the sacred or medicinal.

1. do you remember the first time?
Yes. I was 19, still living at home. Wandered the streets of my neighborhood. Small dose, so not much of a trip. Did get a headache, though.
2. best trip?
Can't remember any really great ones. I think I was a bit hesitant with it, so I only took small doses. Preferred mushrooms. Plenty 'heady' and less toxic and easier to recover from. I think the last one was probably my best, but that was combined with a lot of other intoxicants. Most decadent weekend of my life. Ended with a music rehearsal which I somehow got through.
3. worst trip?
Probably the first. Not much of interest happened, other than my head hurting. Wasn't a terrible experience, just uncomfortable with a bit of 'is that all there is?'
4. do you still take trips, if not, why not and when?
I don't, though I'd probably do mushrooms again if I had 8 ours to spare and could get away from all adult responsibilities for that time. That seems pretty hard to come by these days.

I've taken it four or five times, all in high school. My friends and I regularly imbibed in psychedelics like mushrooms and PCP.
My best trip was also my worst. I've told everyone about going to a friend's family cabin in Big Sur and listening to Jimi Hendrix on a cliff with a waterfall overlooking the Pacific.
Later that same day, I took another hit of acid it was going so well and things went south not too long after. I started thinking of suicide, but luckily, I was around a lot of friends who looked after me. I came down by lying in my bunk and thinking how much my family loved me.
I had flashbacks for weeks afterwards, which scared me, so I've never done it again.

I thoroughly enjoyed my hallucinations. I'm not sure whether I'd partake again - maybe once more, but am generally content to have had some fun.
Never had a bad trip and have laughed, at times, relentlessly when tripping, which is a great stress reliever.
I DO think nowadays that taking something to try and achieve transcendence does slightly feel like cheating - it's like cutting a corner or something.

I took it a few times at university, in the early 90s. It was one of those things a few friends were doing at the time, so I thought "why not?"
The first time was at a mate's house, and everyone there took a tab, so we had a secure environment and theoretically nobody to cause any problems.
It seemed to take ages to kick in, and I remember thinking my tab must have been a dud. And then a couple of us were playing football on the Playstation, and we realised that for the past ten minutes neither of us had kicked the ball, our players were just running round in circles and we were laughing at them.
I did the usual clichéd stuff, put on a couple of Beatles albums, but they didn't sound all that great. So I tried some Dinosaur Jr and then MBV's Loveless, and whoa, they did the trick.
I recall trying to take a piss and spending an inordinate length of time just staring at the water in the toilet bowl, which seemed to be moving of its own accord. And it seemingly took me half an hour to try and light a cigarette.
The second time was on my 21st birthday, and I took half a tab of acid along with some speed after smoking a shitload of weed, and went with my mates to a club where Darren Emerson (of Underworld fame) was DJing. That was fun, probably not dissimilar to being on Ecstasy I guess.
It was fun, but I've never been fussed on trying it again.
Aside from night about half a dozen years ago where a bunch of us had a lock in at a friend's bar and he produced a load of coke, I haven't taken recreational drugs other than alcohol for many years now.

The trips I did in the early 80s were really strong with full on hallucinations for 8 hours. The ones I took in the early 90s were much weaker, like a different drug really.
Worst? When a girl we were doing it with went a bit mad and stubbed out a cigarette in my mate's face. I thought she'd gone permanently loco. Best? Taking it while travelling through the Negev desert. It wasn't the strongest, which was probably just as well given I was stuck on a bus, but it was kind of magical. Weirdest? Going into a pub on the Charing Cross Road. I think they were having some of Second World War commemoration as there was all sorts of stuff on the walls and there were a few skinheads in there. It seemed wherever I looked all I could see were skinheads and swastikas, like I'd stumbled into the Nuremberg Rally.

I remember Chuck, my man Chuck sayin something about the brown acid and then I heard a voice sayin "we must be in heaven man". Next thing I know I'm naked in a port o'san and I can hear the American anthem somewhat distorted as if the wind was blowing the notes around. Ever since that Mexican guy in the desert gave me that hummus on a leaf the world changed.
