Johnny's home town was the star of the show tonight on the lakes with Simon reeves. Beautiful scenery , the world's most polluted site , Britain's last slate mine and lots of beer bellied lads wandering around town. What did they miss Johnny?

I just got out of House of Gucci to a frantic message from my sis!
I'll watch it later. We're in the most hazardous site in Western Europe, apparently

I don't think old Gerard is right to say there's over 90% support for this mine

Poor choice really the Chernobyl like ponds of death a freezing slate mine or down t pit.Harbour looked nice. Was Gezza right about the discrepancy in wages and is he always so generous with his rum ?

I think he exaggerated the wage difference thing. You see a fair bit of poverty in the area but Whitehaven itself isn't an especially poor town, mostly because of Sellafield.
The Georgian architecture really is something else. There isn't another town in the country with so many examples. It's all over and we hardly notice it. He should have gone to FOXHOUSES ROAD! it's jaw-dropping.

The harbour looks nicer at night. He didn't get right down to the piers anyway, maybe because they're still cleaning the lighthouses (made famous by CORONATION STREET). It's wonderful down there.

Bath, yes. They make an effort to preserve them there. There are whole streets here (Irish Street, Scotch Street, Cross Street) entirely made up of a particular Georgian style - kind of robust, wrought-iron balustrades, cellars, boot-scrapers by the steps - but mostly they're left, not exactly to fall apart, but they almost disappear because nobody cares. Or has the money. We were the first grid-planned town in the UK, I think.

Local artist Natalie Burns has been painting the streets and posting the results on Facebook. This is Irish Street Reminds me of the old East End in Sunderland. Similar story, a lot of it was left to rot once the owners escaped the ports and let them out as slums.
