while i'm looking forward to having three weeks off work, i find myself having less christmas cheer with each passing year.
i wanted to visit ol' ma skope, but it's just too much of a pain traveling at the moment. anyway, she's going round to my sister's, so she'll be fine.
i've caused a bit of upset because i passed up on the opportunity to go to my sister-in-law's in mallorca for new year's. the rest of the family are going, but i really don't feel it. fortunately, susi next door will be away so she won't be able to look after the cats making my decision to stay a little more palatable for the family.

My sis asked me to hers for Christmas, but I said no (like I did last year). She accepts it but I think she thinks I'm a bit strange. I just have no interest in any of it. I'm off to Berlin in two weeks and have managed to sort things for the 24th, 25th and 26th even though a lot of places are closed (and of course the pandemic has added further complications).

Don't you prefer to teach face-to-face? Are you OK with working from home the whole time? I did it earlier this year but found I really needed to get out and about at least once a day to 'compensate'.

I did it earlier this year but found I really needed to get out and about at least once a day to 'compensate'. i like the human contact of teaching face to face but with the wearing of masks i don't find it as effective. anyway, the loss of travel time and savings on petrol and car maintenance has been a boon. despite it being a 'puente' here today, i had an early morning class and appreciated that i was able to go back to bed after teaching it.

I am looking forward to a week of doing absolutely nothing between next Saturday 18th and the 25th. I'm exhausted and need at least a week of complete rest.
Thankfully my wife is super super-organised and we have all our food, booze and presents bought, ordered etc, so there is very little to do in terms of general Xmas admin.
Where my sister has Xmas is a bit like Coan in my household - she usually doesn't spend it with us because there's no real room to stay, but we usually ask if she wants to out of a sense of obligation.

I think the joys of spending a holiday season with a FRITH will elude me until my dying day

i've heard of 'em. they are a legit academy. don't know anyone who has worked there, so can't comment on what they are like to work for. there are more and more academies looking for teachers here. i've received several job offers for next year and i don't even have the CELTA. the company who offer me most of my teaching work told me that they are likely to be getting a lot of work next year. brexit has certainly opened up more opportunities for native speakers who are resident here.

I have almost two weeks which I really need as I'm knackered and feel like I'm running on fumes at the mo.
It'll be an odd Xmas and New year but I'll be at my folks on Xmas day and given I haven't even been in their flat since covid happened nor hugged them it will be emotional after a difficult year.
