It's currently -9C at the moment here. Feels like -16C with the windchill. Winter starts in two weeks. How do you feel the difference? It gets in your bones.

Well, the windchill factor is a bit of an odd thing, but let me tell it's real. Imagine you're walking down the street on a cold blustery day. You're bloody freezing. You decide to take a short stop in an unheated outside phone booth. Technically, the air inside the booth is the same temperature as that outside, but removing the effect of the wind, even for just a little while, can make a huge difference. It's still cold, but nowhere near as much.

I don’t like snow. I need to get to work, irrespective of the weather, and snow can make that very difficult/dangerous.
Otherwise, I like the seasons. I like the idea of spending a month or two in sunnier climes though, when I retire.

I think I would get bored if every day was the same, say, sunny, 72F, slight breeze, sunrise and sunset at same time, every day, no change, no variety, every day. EVERY DAY. AAAARGHHHH!
But you can keep the extremes. Those, I coud do without.

I hate the winter these days. Can't wait for it to end. Why? Is it mood related? Do you feel less healthy in winter? I worry more when it's very cold. I know I sound like an old git but I slipped on black ice a year ago and fell hard - I was in quite a bit of pain for almost two weeks - my ribs and back. It could have been worse. But living alone, there's nobody to help me.

Also the early nights, we'll be at the shortest day of the year soon and I can 't wait because every day after that will be a bit better.

Sorry to hear about the fall , G, it can definitely shake one's confidence , let alone the physical cost.
Doc Martens, sneakers/trainers and the like are TERRIBLE in snow and ice and can give a false sense, nothing like a good Vibram sole.

I am beginning to see Shackleton's difficulties writ large here. The French could have probably remained in Canada, just by moving into the Northwest Territories and the Nunavut.

I hate the ice. Really cannot stand it. You do feel vulnerable and I'm one of those people who walks like bambi. Must be awful for old people and there doesn't seem to be much grit around these days.
I used to enjoy winter and I still like the part from Halloween up to Xmas but I really hate January and February and find it does affect my mood. Its just grim, bleak, unrelenting and no fucking wooly sweaters or "cosy nights by the fire" can shake that feeling of gloom.
I hate snow too.

Being indoors when you're warm and it's sheeting it down outside is nice - at least for a while. I feel happy when the seasons change. But yeah, when you've had two months of it already, it's just a drag.
