All I own is a Brooks saddle.

www.themanufacturer.com/uk-manufacturing-statistics/Although the UK is in decline in terms of what it was in the middle of the 20th century, due to the fact that it lost its crucial Empire market, it's still the 9th biggest manufacturer in the world. The NW is the largest region for manufacturing. The lead metric for manufacturing in the media is cars. And due to the fact that there was a catastrophic decline in car manufacturing in the UK after Japanese and German cars took over in the 70s, the notion of "confidence@ has never really recovered here. It's a bit ridiculous because Britain has superb aerospace, pharmaceutical, electronics and defence manufacturing.

If the UK is the ninth biggest, there must be eight bigger. Wondering who that may be

What's driving that?

Brooks England which makes Brooks saddles is owned by Selle Royal of Italy. Brooks still makes the leather saddles in England but their cambium saddles are made in Italy.
Isn't there a lot of cheap, migrant labor available in Italy?

Italy has a number of high end manufacturing companies known around the world. It is very good at white goods, fashion and vehicles as DF says.

Interesting as the statistics may be, what do they actually mean? UK manufacturing is in decline since the 70's. Other countries' probably too.
I couldn't find it quickly but I bet the ranking would be completely different if the output were measured against other data, like population, GDP etc.
The current number one, China, would probably sink to a 3rd worldlevel.

Hey cousinlou, just jumping in to say there was no need for you to edit your post that I questioned. You were very clear. I simply misread as I was half asleep.
