I've seen harder slaps in infant schools. Yep, you can see that Rock senses it coming and swings his head quickly away at the last fraction of a second, meaning in the end it was little more than a glorified push. Smith has to compensate for not meeting the face with his hand as hard as he thought, which you can see in that strange body position he ends in, arm and hand raised at an awkward angle from too much follow-through unbalancing him. I call that slapology.

I think Smith cried at his acceptance speech for a couple reasons. I've liked his acting since Six Degrees of Separation and Pursuit of Happiness. He's a legitimated Hollywood leading man. I think he was crying because he had finally been creatively confirmed by the academy and saw his career going down at the same time.
He'll recover. Movies, like sports (see Dashaun Watson), has a short memory when it comes to bankability. It will hurt him in the short-term, perhaps, and always be part of his legacy.
Last night, on my walk around the neighborhood, I was talking about the incident with a woman friend.
I said that if he was going to confront Rock, he should have cold cocked him. It made Smith look even weaker slapping Rock vs. punching him, to me. I've never slapped another guy in my life, but I've sure as hell decked someone or tried to.
Not at my age, however, but that's beside the point. The slap made him look like a pussy, if you ask me. And crying like a bitch made it even worse. To me, he totally emasculated himself and I don't know if he can convince me otherwise even in a screen role where he's all strapped up with bare pecs and shit.
His apology to Rock was pure crisis control by his agent and PR agent. I see nothing more beyond that.
My woman friend said she'd think twice about seeing another Will Smith movie, which I thought was interesting. She and I differed on Smith slapping Rock. I said what I wrote above and she said it was uncalled for.
It was uncalled for, but to me, go hard or go home.

One thing is true, none of the three will escape the internet, in time we will know too much.
Degrees of assault, slapping or punching? Punching him would have been too damaging and OTP. He could have done a Kanye, gotten up, interrupted Rock, and said "yo, dude she's got alopecia, apologize".
In terms of rehabilitation, don't be surprised to see Will slapping his way through Russian forces in the Ukraine.
Slapping Chris Rock does seem to be a theme, as seen in his show about growing up, Everybody Hates Chris, small 'smart alec' gets whomped a lot.

I also think it reflects someone like Smith is so emotionally insulated from any kind of little concern or problems. These people never have to face any kind of uncomfortableness because they have security and money to shield them.
Smith looked like a baby.

I'm genuinely astonished that anyone here gives a ratshit about any of this drivel. For fuck's sake I find the whole thing embarrassing. I had to mute the fucker's name on my twitter feed to avoid all the handwringing.

I'm genuinely astonished that anyone here gives a ratshit about any of this drivel. For fuck's sake It's a moment of pantomime theatre. Considering the seriousness of Ukraine etc then it's something to talk about by the virtual watercooler. I do find it interesting how people react to something like this though. It can tell you something about people.

not at all. anybody who spends more than a few minutes keeping up with current events is bound to agree. we don't talk about Bruno and we don't talk about a lot of other things.
at first I thought it was fair to consider Rock's joke as "going too far" or "out of line" but I changed my mind. I think looking at it that way is sort of ass-backwards. Ricky Gervais smiled and called them all big phonies and they just sat there with their arms crossed.
the more I think about it I think the opposite - it's just a corny old fashioned Oscar Joke - the kind Billy Crystal or even Bob Hope would make. I mean Jada Pinkett Smith did a lot of press about why she was bald. She's the famous bald lady. Bald Lady/G.I. Jane. I think it's a lazy joke but not a particularly offensive one.
My mother in law watched Will Smith and JP Smith talking about his infidelity on a TV show. I only mention this because it seems like the two of them are very comfortable airing their grievances with the great unwashed.
too bad the great unwashed just can't seem to get enough of that shit. I wonder how long before I go online without seeing a poll or op/ed about them?

She just rolled her eyes, she didn't start crying, unlike Will's acceptance speech. And they talk about every other aspect of their lives on TV, a YouTube channel, but no one else is allowed to comment on their self absorbed infidelities?
