We're on the road in a couple weeks - up through CA into Oregon, up as far as Eugene (where we'll visit Sloop and his doggy), then over through Boise into Jellystone, where we spend three glorious days. Then down through Utah and Nevada. There will be pics.
Anyone else in that area? Anyone have any suggestions for what not to miss?
(And yes, we're going to one baseball game - in San Jose on the first night.)

None of my business, of course, but what will you be traveling in, and what is your fuel budget/expected costs?
Safe travels. Have fun.

The San Jose Giants have a great little park. I used to go to 15-20 games a season. It was a WPA project during the Depression.
Go to Turkey Mike's BBQ.
There's supposed to be some beautiful little towns in the Cascade range along Route 126 where it looks you'll partially have to travel - McKenzie Bridge is supposed to be nice. My son and I were talking yesterday and we made semi-arrangements for him to come down either later this Summer or next and take a trip through the Cascades and Eastern Oregon.
It's a bummer the Emeralds are out of town.
Cal's in town though to play U of O on Friday night at 6 pm and on Saturday afternoon, but I assume you'll have left by then.

Our own car (well my wife's, actually...but I do share the driving when we travel together). I don't even want to think about the fuel budget, but travel costs have gone up everywhere, so it's probably still cheaper than multiple flights or train, and almost certainly cheaper than renting a car. And there's something to be said for coming and going at our leisure. No way around the fact that it's gonna cost a lot - fortunately we booked hotels early so lodging costs are not TOO crazy - but we're figuring on filling up the tank, if not every day, at least close to it. At at least $60-70 a shot. It's a 'significant' birthday for me, so we're just kinda biting the bullet. For my wife's next 'significant' birthday, she wants to go to Paris - so this'll probably cheaper than that, at least.

Not sure exactly when we're leaving on Saturday, but yeah, sometime in the afternoon probably. Shame about the Emeralds. But I think there will be a dedicated Northwest trip at some point - I seem to suddenly know a LOT of people in Portland, in addition to you in Eugene and folks at both the top of California and the bottom of Oregon. Certainly would love to go to a game with you at some point (as well as the Portland Pickles!)

This is a good documentary. It's on Netflix. Kurt Russell's dad owned the Portland Mavericks.

Less than a week! Getting excited.
Recently found out our Boise contact (who I know through another music group; we haven't met in person) is in the band opening for Mudhoney in Boise - the night before we get there. Not a huge Mudhoney fan, but that would've been cool.
Other than Sloop, though, I don't think any of 'us' will be anywhere we're going to be.
Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I will be checking in, and there will be photos.

Greetings from lovely (but cold!) Bend, Oregon.
Thanks for hosting us, John! A wonderful host he was too. Took good care of us.
And I guess the trip to the local brewery might count as an official Jolly-Up, though it was only a three-person one.
Off to Boise, ID tomorrow.

I guess John does wear his heart on his sleeve eh? Errr. Wait a sec.

You just missed the snow over the Cascade range. It's supposed to snow heavily there tonight and tomorrow, but it's heading your way. After a dry February, it was a wet April. We had approximately 5.5" last month. Saturday morning, we beat the rain and I took Dave and Carolyn on a nice walk at Dorris Ranch, which is a working Hazelnut farm and county park. It has a great walking path that goes along the Willamette fork.

Dave snapped this photo in my kitchen for posterity. As Quaco wrote on Facebook, he didn't recognize me with sleeves. I also don't smile very much so it's kinda like a Bigfoot photo in those regards.
