Any plans to celebrate or commemorate? No plans here other than doing a bit of weeding in my vegetable garden and hoping for rain.

In true socialist tradition, I'm going to Blackpool Pleasure Beach and spending the day stood in queues for rollercoasters.

Everyone deserves a getaway, and there's some interesting history in Blackpool. Hope you enjoy. Maybe the waiting won't dampen things too much.

Staying true to my working class roots, the highlights of my Labour Day were going to the mall to pick up some last minute stuff for the wife's b'day (today), and then taking the fam out to see the new Nicholas Cage film she wanted to see.

It was actually really quiet yesterday, completely unexpected for a bank holiday weekend. Practically no queues for any of the rides, we did most of 'em twice. Good for us, but must be worrying for Blackpool.

here in Southern California May Day is basically "You're Lucky to Have a Job Day" so, in the spirit of the occasion - I feel lucky to have a job.
when I was in LA unified in the early 60's we had maypole dances and shit. seriously, it was like "the Wicker Man" IMO May Day has gone downhill since then.

What's the verdict on the Cage flick? It was ok! A bit of daft escapist fun. The final third of it became a bit too Hollywood Action Thriller for my liking, but there were quite a few funny moments and Pedro Pascal was a delight.

One (old) visual joke was perfectly executed and I got a big laugh out of it.

One of the best bits, like a weirdly updated Abbott & Costello or Marx bros. moment, well directed and well played by the actors.

I wonder if "Direct to DVD" Nicolas Cage films in the US are still first run films outside the US. I can't think of the last Cage film that had a theatrical opening, maybe the one about the US mint, money.

The last film I saw of his at the cinema was Mandy. It was ridiculous nonsense
