This Michael Sheen thing where autistic and disabled kids ask him questions is absolutely wonderful. I've never seen anything quite like it. I've been moved to tears a few times. Pull yourself together John!

Totally gripped by this. 4 episodes in, with three to go. Based on true events. Brilliantly shot and acted. Dark as fuck. Recommended.

Really enjoyed Bottom Exposed on Gold last night. Ade talking openly in a way that's quite rare for him. And I learnt a few things.

I don't tend to post much in here, not because I don't watch TV, but because I generally watch docos and football and not much else. I won't watch anything that has non-skippable ads in it, either. I'm not particularly interested in new sitcoms - last genuinely funny one I came across was Derry Girls, and drama can just do one. Words like tense and gripping are a turn-off to me, I don't like to watch people suffering (even if it's only pretend suffering) and so on. So, why did I actally take out a month's subscription to Disney+ just to watch this series? First, because it's a creation of Sally Wainwright, who is simply a great writer. Secondly, its star is one of the aforementioned Derry Girls, and third, because my favourite TV critic, the Guardian's Lucy Mangan, praised it to the skies. And I was hooked by the fact that it begins in Tottenham (my birthplace, in case there is anyone out there who doesn't know) in 1705. It's not a period drama, though, but a thoroughly entertaining anachronism-packed mash-up: a super-hero feminist comedy fantasy with loads of twists and turns, excellent FX, modern in-joke references, memorable characters, action set-pieces, dark arts and sheer brio.
I was entertained.

I binge watched the second series of Blue Lights on iplayer, the BBC cop show set in Belfast. I enjoyed the first series, though it was rather cliched and far-fetched. The second series is much, much better with morally ambiguous characters and an engrossing plot. The main antagonist Lee Thompson (not the Madness guy!) was beautifully written and acted, managing to be both dangerously misguided and sympathetic. Recommended.

Has anyone seen Race Around The World on BBC2? Such a great show, based around a really simple idea - four couples are racing around the clock to get to a destination halfway across the world without running out of money. it's got all the elements I like: you get to know these people a bit, so there's the 'human interest' side; it's a travel show, really, so you see all these fantastic huge Chinese and central Asian cities you've only the vaguest notion of (as well as hellish train journeys between them - and some alien plates of food); and there's the competitive thing, so they're not just drifting about - and you end up rooting for individuals. Last night's was fun as the father/son couple I mentioned were running out of money so they took a day's work at a flower market somewhere in China to get some extra cash. The lad obviously fell for the Chinese girl who showed them the ropes, but had to move on after only a few hours, so it was all hugs and 'I'll send you an email' - one of those bittersweet moments. We've started watching this - it's probably the first series all of us have actively enjoyed watching together. My wife and my son enjoy watching "Feed Phil" on Netflix, "Interior masters" or whatever it's called with Alan and Amanda etc and Masterchef, but I'm not really engaged in them. This, however, is great fun and I think my boy is very interested in the "non-smartphone" world that it tries to engage with, particularly as we are in that era of his life where many of his peers/friends now have phones and we are actively against it. The interaction between the dad and his son is very interesting to watch. I found Josh and Felix to be a bit tedious - obvious hipsters, but otherwise, great entertainment and another three series to watch as well.

I wasn't as interested in the third series (can't remember why - less interesting route? celebs and not 'normal people'?) but I might watch this latest one. It's just a great, simple idea for a show, engrossing and exciting.

It's just a great, simple idea for a show, engrossing and exciting. The third one was filmed in just one country, Canada, so it didn't have the same interest, particularly as often all the competitors took the same route.

True enough. They should start in El Salvador and work their way through Mexico ending up in Haiti before crossing the finishing line . Maybe Iran to Syria would also be a blast.

I'm not sure what to say about something that others may be actively watching or intending to start soon, but..."gripping" is probably an apt catch all for the whole experience.
