I think I started a series of threads like this years ago, but it petered out after Bowie and The Stones. Anyway, Joy Division: An iconic band, but one with relatively few cover versions that meet any type of quality standard. Perhaps proving that they weren't great songwriters, but great creators of an sound, or a particular ambience, or something. Anyway, debate that if you will, but certainly try and dig out any decent Joy Division covers you can think of.
This is my suggestion, The Flowers of Hell taking on Atmosphere with stirring strings, and female vocals thankfully not performed in a John Lewis ad breathy style.

I like this primitive, sparse version of Shadowplay. The only cover of theirs I can think of that gave me a deeper appreciation of the original.

Reminds me a little of Stranded Horse's cover of The Smiths' "What Difference Does it Make?", but that might be for another thread.

Jarboe's version of "Love Will Tear us Apart" is alright, I guess. Better than Gira's anyway.

I'm not saying this is great, but at least it's different (from JD, that is, pretty much standard Low)

Warrior Soul never got any love on this or the other forum, but I think they are great. They clearly think Joy division were great.

Actually own this one, but had forgotten about it. Not as forgotten about as poor Dayodead, apparently.

I was playing some solo Lanegan and Screaming Trees today when this popped up. The group does a very worthy job, for my money.
