First year ever I think I haven’t seen a single thing nominated.

a lot less went straight to streaming than last year. I'd like to see "everything, everywhere..." do well and it just might.
it seems like Oscar has a thing for BIG production values though. those movies put a lot of people to work.

Saw "The Fabelmans" tonight. Meh. A very inconsistent movie. Had some great parts - the acting was solid, and a slight surreal edge felt like a valentine to the art of movie making - David Lynch as John Ford was particularly hilarious and over-the-top - but too much of it was too ponderous, overegged, and overexplained.
I really doubt it'll win for best picture, but Hollywood does love to be self-referential, and I'm scared they might give Spielberg the gift of a victory lap for his autobiographical film as a sort of lifetime achievement award. I would be very disappointed, even though it's the only one I saw other than the Banshees of Inisherin (which is far superior, imo).
Hope to get to Everything Everywhere All At Once this week (my predicted winner, based on what I've heard from others).

I don't suppose many people (anyone?) saw the BAFTAs, but that sometimes gives you an idea of what's coming up with the Academy.
I kind of felt sorry for Ana De Armas, because she hasn't won anything major yet, and despite the major flaws of the film, she was really good as MM. At least I thought so.

it's nice to see a year when Disney doesn't have a lock on the animated category. I wasn't exactly crazy about Del Toro's Pinocchio but it's certainly dynamite movie making.

Picture - Everything, Everywhere Director - Daniels Actor - Butler Supporting actor - Gleeson Actress - Blanchett Supporting actress - Curtis or Bassett - toss-up Animated feature - Pinocchio Documentary feature - Fire of Love International feature - All Quiet Adapted screenplay - All Quiet Original screenplay - Banshee (note that a best picture winner rarely wins a screenplay award too - it's usually a 'consolation prize' for NOT winning it, which is why I doubt Everything Everywhere will win here). Cinematography - All Quiet Costume - Black Panther Editing - Everything, Everywhere Makeup - Black Panther or Elvis - toss-up Production design - total toss-up for me. Maybe this is where the Fabelmans gets its token award? Sound - toss-up again. I'd say Top Gun, but I'm totally guessing. Visual effects - All Quiet (but really just guessing here too) Score - Are we tired of John Williams yet? Fabelmans still seems most likely Song - Sure hope it'll be "Naatu Naatu," but I fear it'll be "Lift Me Up" Documentary short - Stranger at the Gate Animated short - The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse (though I sure WANT it to be "My Year of Dicks!") Live action short - Only saw 2 of them, but my guess is Le Pupille at this point.

so Everything Everywhere won best pic, best actress, best supporting actor, best supporting actress, editing and I think two others
Brendan Fraser got best actor
All Quiet got quite a few early on - best sound, best continuity, that kind of bollocks nobody cares about
Hugh Grant acted like a cunt to Ashley Graham on the red carpet but (so some people believe) was sufficiently self-deprecating later on stage that he 'made up for it'
Nothing for Banshees that I could see, but they brought the donkey on stage
haven't seen or heard Rihanna's song yet but some say it was a highlight. She looked amazing

Went as it should have for the most part..The only ones that went against the guilds: Production Design: All Quiet (Guild: Babylon) Cinematography: All Quiet (Guild :Elvis)
Score was just an egregious choice..The subtle Banshees score should have won..All quiet's score was basically one musical cue, done over and over..
Song- Generally don't care about the category, but they seemed to have gone with a flavor of the month..

I enjoyed the broadcast. I thought Elizabeth Banks presenting with Cocaine Bear was the highlight of the evening... aside from seeing a film I enjoyed win a lot of stuff. I'm an old jaded dude in OH so many ways but I'm still a sucker for that.
