Never heard of this. 60 episodes broadcast near the start of C4's inception.

I've felt a pull towards Antique Roadshow recently.

Jack Hargreaves had a show called Out of Town on some ITV networks in the Sixties. It was appointment TV for me. Old Country was a revival under a different name when he took it to Channel 4 after Southern TV (who made OoT) lost their franchise. I have a great fondness for any TV which shows experts and enthusiasts sharing their niche expertise and enthusiasms. Antiques Roadshow and it's precursor progs such as Going for a Song are good example: Fred Dibnah always did great gentle TV, too, and currently there's The Repair Shop, which, if you record it and fast-forward through the sentimental bits, as I do, is an excellent way to pass a chilled-out half hour

The sentimentality of modern TV is absolutely shocking. It seems every program now has some terrible backstory about someone and their fucking struggle with life. Just get on with it.

Andy McConnell is another and is even more of a hoot in real life because he tells colourful stories and swears like a trooper.

Oh hell yeah! The greatest thing ever. “Warm apple night. Warm apple night. Warm apple night.”

And...I think the friction with "NOT Pera paced things" like doomsday prepping, familial conflict, death, alcoholism, etc. is key to the overall impact.

I think my favourite gentle tv show is The Detectorists.

Yeah nice interview. A propos of Rachael Stirling, have you ever seen Tipping the Velvet? Wonderful series, although not exactly gentle .

I should try it. 20 years old… a young Keeley Hawes too, who is exceptional, usually.
