"Bull in the Heather" Sonic Youth
One of the last few chances to pick a Sonic Youth track. Had to leave off the best Nick Cave album and sacrifice Underworld/The Prodigy to do it, though..

Opening up 1995
My choice is 'Black Steel' by Tricky. I'll say more on why I've chosen this later.

Geez...Guess I'll need to go with someone else..(Had "Hell is round the corner" ready to go) Didn't think anyone else on here would go with Tricky..

Geez...Guess I'll need to go with someone else..(Had "Hell is round the corner" ready to go) Didn't think anyone else on here would go with Tricky.. One of those selections - rare for me actually - where I was looking to represent the album rather than a particular song. "hell...." and "Aftermath" were my other contenders.

it's my top album of the year and one of my all time favorites..Thankfully, there are plenty more to choose from in 1995..

1995 and the golden age of hip hop comes to an end. There would be some good music going further, but the drop off in 96 is significant. I doubt I'll be picking another rap song. The south would take over, Atlanta, Memphis, and while I like some Outkast, it is no longer the same. I have no use for the horror rap of the 3-6 Mafia, and the best rap would soon be underground. Jay Zed and his ilk bored the bejesus out of me and don't get me started on Kanye. It's the end of an era with Mobb Deep.

1995
A personal choice. Regardless of any misgivings towards Corgan's voice or the band in general I think this song is undeniable enough to transcend them. I can't really think of a record from that period that has the same level of bittersweet melancholy and poignancy as this one. A timeless reminder of the ephemeral beauty of youth that's also smart enough to recognise the eternal pain of its passing. Classic video too.

I've got TWO 1995 tracks I'd want to include. I'm sure somebody's got to pick track #1 so I can pick #2, cause I'd hate to throw it to the omissions sink. But #1 just cannot be missed.
So I wait.

1995
Well, I've completely surprised myself and gone for a big pop number. I was convinced back in 1995 that Drugstore were going to become absolutely massive, and cynically hoovered up all their early singles and even the fan club only Christmas single, expecting them to become much sought after. Ah well. Big guitars, sultry vocals, big catchy tunes, I still don't understand their lack of success. I was going to pick something off Movietone's sublime debut, btw, which is nocturnal mumble-core at it's very zenith, but this seemed more in-keeping with the canon concept, even if it isn't canon.

That's not the one I thought you'd take..Crescent (Even though youtube doesn't seem to have ANYTHING from 'Now'), Flying Saucer Attack, Jarboe, Movietone, Tindersticks, yes..Thought Ray would be the one to chime in with Drugstore. Remember him liking them (??)..("Solitary Party Groover" was on my list)

1995 Sparky’s Dream - Teenage Fanclub That's close enough to my pick #2. It would have been Neil Jung from the same album, but Sparky is equally great and we've probably had enough TF. Especially considering the alternative is simply the most canonical track from 1995 in my book. Quite surprised it hasn't been picked yet. 1995Pulp - Common People
