Snee has seen ‘em all. If he hasn’t, he can write entertainingly about not seeing ‘em. So just bring up a movie and watch him go! First up - The Misfits (1961)

IMO X is better than it has any right to be. Milland didn’t scrimp when cast in those AIP cheapies. I love Rickles and I can believe that he studied the method.
Speaking of the method, I think MM is wonderful in Misfits. I think we are seeing her through Miller’s eyes here. I’m a big Huston fan and I think this is in his top drawer. I doubt Gable gave any thought to the method and yet his acting is of a piece with the others.
If it’s a western then so is HUD. Both films seem to be about something going out of the world for good. The fact that Misfits 3 great stars weren’t long for the world drives this point home if you know & doesnt’t matter at all if you don’t. the leads get their guts up on the screen. I love sad movies.

neat for Hopper but it feels like a really long "twilight zone" to me. I guess it's rep is how weird and moody it is. I've never been too crazy about it.

I hope others will chime in. I always liked that one. Peter Fonda might be the least skilled actor in the cast but the guy was great in stuff like this. He's just reactive enough, he's relatable. I think that counts for a lot when things onscreen get pretty far fetched.
it's exciting! can you think of another Satan cult/car crash movie? understandably logic and the laws of physics aren't always observed but Warren Oates and both ladies look genuinely scared out of their minds. I find this very effective since the creepy stuff is pretty well done.
I love the actor R.G. Armstrong who plays the sheriff. SPOILER ALERT: you know he's going to end up on the wrong side of things the moment you lay eyes on him. why? because it's R.G. Armstrong!!! what a face.
I'd give it three out of a possible five stolen library books.

A big one for me. used to see it in a "last picture show" type theater when I lived in a little town outside of Bakersfield late 60's. the guy must have owned his own copies of movies. his theater was the only place to go and we only had 2 TV stations so something like "The Bellboy" ends up meaning more to somebody in those circumstances than it would on it's own merits.
Later I went through a "jerry phase". don't get me wrong. some of the movies that fascinated me are UFW (un fucking watchable. If you can get through 'the family jewels' then Jerry Lewis owes you money) some are train wrecks. some are very clever logistically (who's minding the store, the ladies man)
but, when you get right down to it, the bellboy is probably the one for the time capsule if you think future generations need to know about jerry lewis. My favorites are the louder, stupider ones (like The Patsy) but the bellboy is simplicity itself. it's really just a collection of sight gags but why not? what's wrong with sight gags? some are better than others but I far prefer it to some of his better loved movies. I watched "the nutty professor" when i was a kid in the big city on a matinee like it was a Disney movie! have you SEEN the Nutty professor? how CREEPY is that?
anyhow, one of Leslie Halliwell's books quoted Dean Martin saying (of Lewis) "once people started comparing him to Chaplin - there was no talking to the guy" or something like that. Jerry was no Chaplin but the bellboy is certainly the best representation of him taking the comparison to heart.
