It's ok, i wouldn't turn it off if it was on the wireless. Too many stops and starts, and the theatric singing by the big man isn't as cool as he thinks.

I'll keep it simple like himself, and stick with Douglind.

I'll keep it simple like himself, and stick with Douglind. I liked it. It's a bit bonkers! I dug the heavier, unexpected parts.

I have heard a few things from this artist (mainly in cups I think) and they've pulled me in without totally convincing me. This reminded me of something that might have been found on a This Mortal Coil album, a similar sense of classicism. Initially I thought it might be too stiff and austere for me, but as the piano builds and the vocal loosens up a bit it starts to acquire quite a mesmerising power. I liked it, and I think I'll give the album a go. I can see why this artist has developed a strong following. Cheers D!
I'm going to try some early soul for Ray, which he may or may not know (or might have known and then forgotten...which is increasingly the case with me these days!). It's a very early Chi-Lites track, released, I believe, when they were still known as the Hi-Lites.

Whoops, sorry, this got so far down the page I didn't notice my name on it, sorry. I haven't heard that before, G, cheers. It's early for the Chi-Lites, sure, but for me that's mid-period pop soul : without the lush Philly arrangements/productions of their big hits, you can hear the influence of Curtis and the Impressions better. Nice track. I've plugged The Distractions' masterpiece Factory single, Time Goes By So Slow too many times, so I thought I'd find a track from their Island Album, Nobody's Perfect. Shockingly not every track is on youtube, but one of my favourites is. This one is for riggers - may be outside you're comfort zone, but they're just about the finest pop band to come out of Manchester, for me at any rate (and if you haven't heard the single mentioned in the previous paracraph, give it a crack (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9cJTyVmuHs)

Really like this one, cheers Ray. I've heard of them, but ashamed to admit I've never heard their music until now.
Funnily enough, to me it has a tinge of Liverpudlian in it. The vocal is reminiscent of both Ian McCullough and James Skelly from the Coral. It has a mournful, folky quality to it.
I recently read a book called 'Factory Fairy Tales' by Ged Duffy of The Stockholm Monsters, another band I'd never listened to until recently. It reminded me of a Manchester 'scene' before 'Madchester', even before The Smiths became the template for indie bands. I was a little too young to be part of it, but bands like The Man From Delmonte and King Of The Slums showcased the quirky and disparate nature of the music then. Even early James, before they became indie stadium rockers were really quirky, with their toytown sounds and jerky rhythms.
This one unfortunately isn't on Spotify, otherwise it would have gone into a playlist, although 'Time Goes By So Slow' is, so that's gone in there. Excellent stuff.
This one is for....*pulls name out of hat*...Fange! Kacy and Clayton-"The Light Of Day". 'Alt country' type duo who create beautiful things.

^ That's really enjoyable, cheers riggers! I'm not a massive country fan, but have always enjoyed some in small doses and as you note this leans a bit to the alt. country side. Lovely guitar sound, and those kinds of harmonies are always welcome with me.
