Wow. That's dismal. What have I done to deserve this? you KNOW what you did!!!
I think a lot of covers are like carving your name on a tree.
the tree isn't any better but Kilroy was here!

Wow. That's dismal. What have I done to deserve this? There isn't much one can say about it - it seems to really aggressively fulfil the mandate of "lesser than the real thing", and to what purpose? Anyhow - this one's for Darkness Fish. Soz for the delay, it's been a busy work/weekend schedule. I have to say, I never really got on that well with Robert Wyatt. Soft Machine 1 and 2 are great, but I dipped in and out of his solo catalogue, and it turns out the only album I really loved was his swansong, Comicopera. No idea what makes it different from the other albums for me. I wonder if this has been picked out for me because of the way it's been turned from a large n' smooth sounding soul thang into a bit of internalised bedroom pop. Bob turns it into a low key soliloquy, a moodier beast. But it still doesn't really grab me, it's a bit unengaging whichever way its performed. Didn't have enough meat to chew on.

I'll probably regret it. And so will Fonz, but this one is for he:

I was in the middle of reading Wyatt's authorized biography, so...it was on the brain, but...also a) you hadn't been picked recently enough, and b) there was a general feeling of "I wonder what DF would make of this?".

I’ve got to be honest with you, I’d never heard of them. But I liked that enough. Maybe if I’d been exposed to them 40 years ago they’d have made a big impression, because they’d have been right in my wheelhouse.
Like a lot of these things though, if you miss that moment in your formative years, you don’t get a second chance to really love something.

This one’s for G. I know it’s not exactly obscure. There’s a bit of that funky, pre-acid vibe. There’s something for everyone.
Billy Cobham. Bolin. Hammer. What a line-up.

my introduction to "fusion"! it made quite an impression 40 or so years ago. still does. that very track is on my bottomless playlist. I kiss my fingers like a cartoon chef. I wonder what G. thinks.

I just picked them out because they remind me of some of the overly nerdy guitar bands like Watchtower that I quite like. But with added chaos.

I have heard of them but never heard a note of their music. I actually have an album in my Amazon basket...where it's been for a couple of years!

Don't be throwing prog accusations around at me, sunshine, or I'll give you a piece of my mind. They're not prog, because... I say so! To be fair, their vocals probably have that Geddy Lee effect on most people, too.

A classic Fonz - great track. I got into it when Massive Attack sampled it on Blue Lines and I had to hear more.

It's fantastic, G. If they had done an album of this stuff, I'd snap it up.
I'm supposed to be getting ready for work now, so it might be a while before I can pick something/someone...
