I picked Relay for a cup and got slaughtered. Same with My Wife (I mean Entwistle's song, not my wife)

I'm used to people hating "Relay" I will NEVER be used to people hating "my wife"

Oh, I've got enough hate for that one to go around and a bit left over.
They sound like they're making it up as they go along, with Moon stumbling about all over the kit in an attempt to cover up any flubs! It's AWFULE

I prefer "Long Live Rock" to "The Seeker", let alone "Relay". *(ducks)*

I like Relay but I wasn't fussed about it for a long time. Let's See Action - of the Lifehouse tracklist - is the weak song for me.
Long Live Rock is not even in the same league as The Seeker.

It's AWFULE It's the combination of the non-tunes coupled with Daltrey's bombastic full throttled voice that makes them so bad I think. Arguably The Who had the greatest fall of any rock band, with The Stones it was more gradual.

It's an odd choice but I guess they felt they should include an Ox song.
They should have used Pure and Easy. That would also have fitted in with The Song Is Over.

It's one of those albums that is supposed to be revered. When in actual fact it's reputation is based on its admittedly brilliant high spots. And the weaker parts are ignored.
Much like Pet Sounds.

I'm definitely more on the side of 'the 60s stuff is better' but I don't think it's quite that simple either. There are several songs here - and yes, "Bargain" is one of them - that retains their pop sense through all the synths, jamming, and Daltrey's abs. That said, I ain't gonna pay through the nose for a deep dive into what is, at best, their 4th or 5th best record. Maybe the 2-disc. Kinda surprised it's taken this long. I mean, this is probably their 'biggest' record at this point (whether it deserves it or not) and Townshend seems to like a bit of cash flow, so... Work promos have slowed down quite a bit, but I did go through the 'free' bins and pulled out the half-speed master 1 LP Who's Next and the 2-disc CD Who's Next/Lifehouse Sessions one. I could certainly put together my own 2-disc Best Of from the behemoth that would be better, but it isn't bad. As usual - and I think this is true of EVERY SINGLE record from Tommy on - the Townshend demos are more interesting than the band outtakes. The stripped down versions would have made a better record in my estimation, other than maybe "Baba O'Riley" and "Won't Get Fooled" which really needs Roger's chest hair to sell it. Unless the big box shows up at work - and I'll elbow people out of the way if I have to - I'll have to be content to listen to it on line. (Not all the way through it, but the more 'unfinished' things are, the more I tend to like them so far.)
