I always get those two mixed up.

I watched Love and Mercy again at the weekend. I think I enjoyed it more this second time around. I'd have loved to have seen more of their recreation of Sunset Sound and the Pet Sounds sessions - that was a fucking BLAST! - but I'll say it again: it makes NO SENSE that John Cusack plays the older BW. No sense at all. I think the 60s part of the film is much stronger than the 80s part generally. I don't think they successfully pulled them together, although it was a brave try.

I take it neither the Beatles nor Beach Boys are on the soundtrack.

My son wanted to watch it. As bad as I remember, especially William Hurt's weird accent and soundtrack.

okay, if you have any respect left for Ol' Sneelock this is where you lose it. I won't say it's a good movie but I've seen it a BUNCH of times so I must enjoy it. it can't be because I'm such a big Lee Marvin fan since he's not in it very much and seems like he's thinking about what to have for lunch when he is. it can't be because of the cast. I don't care much for her. most of the fun of watching Hurt is wondering which accent he will or won't be using next. it's not an especially good mystery. I really can't think of much good to say about it. and yet... I'll watch it through to the end again, you can count on it. why? I've given the matter some thought. I think it's the ending.
SPOILER ALERT: When Hurt lets the sables free from their cages to the strains of "Swan Lake" I start crying like a baby. I must like crying like a baby at dumb movies. that ending gets me every time.

Joanne Pakula is the best part.

I seem to have somehow become an expert in dodgy shark films. The first 47 Metres Down was pretty good I thought, but this one is a bit risible. Somehow, a blind killer shark has evolved in an underwater Mayan Temple, and because of its heightened senses it can easily track and kill the trapped schoolgirls and underwater explorers. The shark scenes aren't actually the worst parts, there's this entirely nonsensical bit where the ocean currents are pulling them out to sea at a couple of hundred miles an hour, without any explanation. Not as good as that Australian film about the shark in the supermarket, anyway.

Now that my son and I finished the Sopranos, my son is especially disappointed. We watched this on my recommendation last night. My son liked it. You may not recognize the director's name, but he directed Cool Hand Luke and the Amityville Horror, among other movies.

My other favorite line is, "Why do you need a fancy suit when you got no job to wear it to?"

Watching Desert Fox on BBC2. It's a strange film. I can't think of many other examples of an enemy military leader being cast as the hero.

James Mason was a wonderful, watchable actor.

Watched this last night. Second viewing, and I still think this (and its sequel) are both pretty good horror films, even if the narrative clearly does break down if they all just agreed to log off: And watched this this afternoon, because I didn't know what else to do:

I ate popcorn I liked stunts and actors and SFX.. the story and the dialogue seemed real “re-tread” to me. I think I liked even the dumb Han Solo movie better.
