I’ve only ever taken two albums straight back to the shop for a refund.
Andromeda Heights & Deserters Songs.
These days I love the former but Mercury Rev still sound like a poor man’s Flaming Lips to me.
I think the reason I didn’t like the Prefab album was because the “synths as a fake string section” did, and still do, just sound like they couldn’t afford an orchestra. Which was probably true.
If any band deserves the live orchestral outing, it’s the Sprouts

I had sent away for an album by the seminal SF punk band Crime. Or so I thought. What I got was a Norwegian death metal band with thee same name. I sent it back but was never refunded.

Don't know if I would bother. My time is worth too much to bother taking anything back, unless there was a mistake or a flaw. Ok, may some big expensive box set. And if I don't like something immediately, I figure I may in time.
