One of the reasons I gave up salaried work 44 years ago was the sheer bullshittery of the hours thing. I was expected to stay late if there was some kind of flurry going on, but wasn't allowed to fuck off home when there was literally nothing I could usefully do. Paid imprisonment, I felt. And all the freelance stuff I did in the following 30-odd years I was essentially my own boss, set my own hours, and got stuff done. I was paid for my work, not my time. I'm not really a team player, but I enjoyed working with small groups of people I liked, who valued what I did rather than having me sit at a desk twiddling my thumbs. I couldn't be doing with any other way. Once I'd left London for Bristol, I could get the train up one morning, work until quite late, sleep in the office (had my own airbed, fartsack and pillow, work from waking up to seven, go and stay with a mate, then back to the office for an hour or two before catching the train back to Brizzle. Got a week's work done in a couple of days. Champion.

I like working in teams for banter sake if you have the right people. The relying on that team mate who is shit just drives me crazy. You had just one job! one fucking job! Argh
