Ah man, he pops up so randomly in good films and tv and never disappoints. R.I.P.

I just listened to him on the BCS Insider Podcast the other day and he was enormously charming and likeable. He said that a lot of great performers turned down the role of Hector Salamanca because there was no dialogue. He also mentioned that he'd had a non-sexual role in some reasonably popular 1970s adult film.

I saw him play an absolutely hopeless junkie in Gone Baby Gone and a sophisticated perfume expert in Hannibal. Totally convincing in both parts.

I found his character in BB a little ridiculous...but RIP!

I thought it was magnificent. Properly scary.

I thought it was magnificent. Properly scary. A frail old man who couldn't speak and was confined to a wheelchair and could only communicate by ringing a little bell, could lead a violent international drug cartel? I mean I know it's within the genre to be a bit far-fetched and I can accept it up to a point ( even the somewhat ridiculous notion that a powerful drug dealer would masquerade as the manager of a fast food store, turning up dutifully day after day), but this was a step too far for me. It turned it into comedy.

Seeing what you've written there....yeah, it rings true. The whole idea IS kind of preposterous. But it worked! it really worked.

I would say that the synergy between the more fantastic plot points/characters and the actors who portrayed them was a huge part of every installment of the franchise.
I mean, this goes as much for Lalo, Marco, and Leonel as it does for Hector or Gus.
