Raving about him in Harry Potter films, he was so much more than a Potter character.
The great Gambon. He will be sorely missed.

That was amazing TV, I as totally riveted at the time.

It was neige. Shocked that the culture vultures on here are not praising his work.

I never got The Singing Detective I'll admit. Maybe I should give it another view.

I'm glad the Potter-Heads at my house are sure to be saddened. I won't need to explain who he was. I'd never even TRY to sit them down with "The Singing Detective". That one has positively devastated me on every viewing. "you and me, God!"
to see a delirious crisis of faith presented in the genres the author knew well give it a truly unique quality. we share his delirium and his affliction - up to a point. we stand apart from him and regard his predicament - up to a point.
I hope I still have a paperback of the script in the garage. Potter's language seems very well considered to me here. I know it's very much of it's time technically and in other ways. it strikes me as a superior piece of episodic television. there's nothing like it. even Potter's other stuff while it may have similarities in form doesn't seem to be as lodged in his own throat, needing to get out.
I think it is exceptional.
in closing, Gambon seemed like he was always exceptional. he was quite a talent.
