Yeah, it's an interesting phenomenon, cause...think about ANY record you know and love to any degree, and imagine that artist in a similar situation finding that loophole and re-recording that album (to whatever degree the remakes are or aren't similar, as the case may be here).
How do you think they would fare in the marketplace, critically OR commercially? Within the fandom? I dunno - just...whatever records we're talking about...Beggar's Banquet (Mick's Version), Loveless (Kevin's Version), Innervisions (Stevie's Version), The Joshua Tree (Bono's Version), etc.? I swear Prince remade the title track of "1999" purely in an effort to cut Warners out of any pre-millennial sales bump, and...THUD! Def Leppard remade some ancient hit of theirs maybe 10 years later to cut their old bosses out of downloads/licensing/streaming. Nobody cared.
So...if we're describing the phenomenon of Taylor Swift as being some absolute glitch in the matrix, the idea that a remake of one of her biggest albums is now the biggest selling something ever, is...again...this is where I have to hold my hands up and say "I don't know how ANY of this shit works". I don't have any groundbreaking theories about her and/or her fans that explain these types of large scale anomalies away. Pocket money is precious, and...I dunno...aren't parents normally like "No, you can't! We already have 1989 at home."?
Even an artist for whom I have this much musical apathy and indifference, the part of me that has played the game absolutely is all for it.

Yeah, there is some very deep 'planets aligning' stuff happening here for this to occur. This could be a good thread idea - what do YOU want to hear as a "________'s version"?

Another 'event'.
Are you excited? Sure you at least know someone who's excited.

If people can spend their time chasing invisible pokemon characters and buy steely dan records, anything is possible.

What’s the event? Tour, album, boyfriend etc? Shake it off is the only thing I’m familiar with. It was pretty good but I didn’t feel the need to explore. Is she the new Beatles? Is there real substance? I’ve seen stuff on websites but haven’t bothered to read anything.
A lot of this stuff just passes me by. Sheeran Eillish. Grimes. I know they’re huge, but I’m the wrong demographic.
It’s good that there’s some new real ‘stars’ though, because our generations’ (sic) are all dying or dead, but I’m going to be listening to Perry Como before I get involved with the youngsters.
That said, I listen to a lot of metal. It’s always evolving. Always fresh stuff.

let me check under the hood and see if I have any opinions about her. well, what do you know! I do!
she certainly seems to wear an awful lot of lipstick. more than average, don't you think? I think it's cute the way she dorks around with her football boyfriend and gets all chummy with her fans.
People around me seem to like her enough that I can cool my jets on my popularity bias at least for a while being the single biggest thing ever certainly seems less of a burden on her than it was on goddam Michael Jackson.
I think I'll leave it there. I hope she uses her power for good instead of evil.
