We don't talk about them as much as we should. Considering they're Britain's greatest band and all I'll say something later, but what do you think of this one? I remember the NME review saying Mark sounded like Diamanda Galas having her tonsils ripped out in the 'chorus'

I have many mixed feelings about The Fall in general. I'm a big fan of that kind of ultra-repetitive overtly-simplistic style, it's low-key yet confident. But then they completely ruin the effect with the rubbish 'chorus', you can get why Frank Sidebottom was so fond of 'em. I dunno, it's like I half love it, but I'm always a bit disappointed with 'em at the same time.

I don’t have mixed feelings. I don’t think they’re very good. Sorry John. I have tried. I want to like em because they represent something… but I don’t know what exactly. Musically they’re rudimentary, and to be honest, the lyrics seem lazy.

Actually the lyrics are usually very good. This one has great lyrics!

There is Fall I love, mainly the early stuff. This is one for the hardcore fans I think, for everyone else it's just some mumbling over a not very interesting riff.

Honestly Johnny, just stick to pop acts who dressed themselves in alternative clothes and had coloured hair. No pleasing some people, tsk.
Of course the Fall are wonderful, of course they always make an exciting noise. Even their 'commercial ' stuff is often a cut above most.
The bloke was a drunk, obnoxious cunt of the highest order. He knew most folk bought him a pint just so he would fuck off somewhere else.
Keep their name alive Johnny. Smith was a genius. If a total twat like Jake Thackeray or Ewan McColl can be revered in this world then Mark e Smith-ah needs to be offered your respect. Jesus, this place. Slippers, jazz and eighties pop rule.

Gaah! Too many good threads and too little time right now.. Will come back to this and others. Soon.
It's majestic of course. It wouldn't be in my Fall top 10, or even top 20, but it's utterly wonderful.
'Crow's feet are ingrained in my face..'
'O'er the poison river locks...'
'Finally going through old parasite gate ..'
No one wrote words like that, before or since.

Crow's feet are ingrained on my face And I'm living too late Try to wash the black off my face, but it's ingrained And I'm living too late Sleepless, in-control spleen Agreed ace family Must have stump tripod in the genes I'm immune to things In my dreams
I saw through the trees O'er the poison river locks Talk treacherous would beat But still my heart it is rock
Finally going through old parasite gate But there's a 24-hour clock watch And I'm living too late Think Sometimes life is like a new bar Plastic seats, beer below par Food with no taste, music grates I'm living too late Once talking was my favourite while But now I know a conversation's end Before it's done Maybe I'm living too long The daylight
I see trouble on the streets Fearing catastrophe to meet Walk down the devil's boulevard But still my heart is hard
They say them cellars were evil black But I know they're wrong Think it's one Been Living too long

I like it a lot. It's cheeky and upfront about what it's trying to do and doesn't give a fuck. Pure MES.
