That's an interesting list, but Scott Walker seems an obvious omission.

It is an interesting list. You suspect that many of these albums were things he was listening to in the late 60s, which shows that the things which make the most impact on you are often encountered when young. Other than VU, and even then not really, there's little here that fits comfortably into the rock mainstream. I've only heard about a quarter of the list, so might have a go at listening to an album a week..anyone else up for this?

I'd do that.
I would also add (without actually KNOWING this) that someone like him (with a sizeable and devoted audience) might have/feel the mandate to use his platform and this exercise to educate/expose some lesser known gems.

I'm pretty sure there is no Robert Wyatt album called 'Shipbuilding', so I guess he's referring to the single, on a list of albums?

Thanks for that. Makes a lot more sense to know that they aren't in fact his top 25 albums but 25 he'd like to promote or write about - althoughonly 23 of them get written about.

It's a bit Pitchfork isn't it.

Actually I'd missed that DF had already provided a link to the original Vanity Fair article, in that link he does write about all his choices.

And, as always, a wonderfully playful style of writing.

For someone who was supposed to be so forward thinking, it's a pretty old list.

although, it's pretty out of character for DB to not use the proper name for something. EDIT: once again I get caught talking before thinking. he says right in his comments that he means the single. NO YOU DON'T DAVID BOWIE!!!
too soon.
