I keep hearing this bollocks about how they put out all these great tunes that weren't hits. But they weren't hits because they weren't great tunes, for fuck's sake! There weren't any fucking great tunes!

I like a fair bit of what the two main fellas went on to do. Both those bands were pretty sharp.

I mean...can you name an artist who legitimately had a sackful of great tunes that the vast majority still haven't heard? It's not an idea that's got LEGS, is it?

I keep hearing this bollocks about how they put out all these great tunes that weren't hits. But they weren't hits because they weren't great tunes, for fuck's sake! There weren't any fucking great tunes! I saw the last half hour of that, and I thought it was just me having the volume down so low that made the music blur. Interesting to hear them talking, though - might catch it on iPlayer, just to see what they have to say about starting out, andto work out who was who.
They never meant much to me at the time, although I knew well a spritely Irish plumber, Johnny Gordon, who was friends with O'Hagan (and the guitarist out of Stump, but that's another story), so I knew about them without remembering a damn thing they did.
I do vaguely remember hearing, even buying, something by both the Fatma Mansions and the High Llamas, but that was the 90s and I was already starting to drift back to America for my vinyl fix.
This ramble was brought to you by cannabis resin and Friday night. Hotcha!

Yeah, it was a decent doc, although the best stuff was at the end, really. All that validation. Must have been sweet.

There weren't any fucking great tunes! Honestly. Great band. Hits-schmits. The clock comes is one beautifully crafted album. Essential. Only a BUFOONE would think otherwise.

I thought they were pretty average back in the day and didn't bother watching the doc. I did like The High Llamas though.

Cathal comes across really well I thought - it's worth watching for that alone. Fiercely intelligent, articulate, thoughtful, modest man. Such a shame he left us when he did.
