Can't say I know much other than the hits, but this is surely one of the greatest pop songs of the 70s.
RIP

Odd band...things like 'Mr Soft' and 'Judy Teen' sound like Brechtian cabaret. The nearest thing to them in the 70s was probably Queen, but they were like a Queen without the heavy rock influence. 'Come Up...' is a thing of great wonder though. RIP.

I'm by no means an aficionado, but this is pretty special.
R.I.P. Steve, and fuck cancer.

"Andy Partridge of XTC was apparently a fan, as was evident from his early vocal style"
Hah!

Because people whose musical tastes I trust have lauded him, I have tried him out over the years.
It's like an American trying to convince a Brit of John Cougar, Cheap Trick or the Replacements. Something gets lost in the translation.
I know Pete/Diamond Dog praised his work so I'm sorry that he's gone for people who liked his music.
He and Eric Carmen can write hits in the sky.

L.A. FM radio played "come up and see me" right along with the MOTT and Slade and what have you. I can take or leave everything else but that one is etched on my ingrams as vividly as anything else from the period. when movies are set in the 70's and it is included on the soundtrack I always feel like somebody has done their homework. I always loved that one.

It's undeniable. Just think of Harley as the conduit for the music if you can't deal with his UNCTUOSITY

Unctuocity sounds like a Parliament song.
