beg to diffa! I wish I liked it more but every time I revisit I feel the same. I don't claim to be a FAIR judge but I can be pretty ruthless.

Low-life's their best in my opinion.

I love hearing Blue Monday on a massive sound system with all the detail crystal clear. It's a clubbing record that sums up the decadent 12" audio ideas of the early eighties in one precise record.
As to the rest of New Order's output, I am yet to be convinced of their supposed greatness. I appreciate why people like them, but something in their sound just doesn't click.

Never bothered with it as I had all the 12-inches on vinyl. It was New Order's medium. The B-sides were pretty good, too. Mind you, I was losing enthusiasm with the run from Subculture to State of the Nation. True Faith is a pinnacle for me - think I picked it for the canon, but both versions of Thieves Like Us, Temptation, Everything's Gone Green, Murder, Touched By the Hand of God - all fine.

There's something to like in all of New Order up to and including Technique (and possibly beyond, I'm not familiar with the post-80s stuff), but I prefer the early years when they're struggling under the shadow of Joy Division and haven't quite found a way forward. Power Corruption & is for me their best work, I think because it's pretty much at that halfway point between the old and the new. Curtis is still definitely a presence in a song like Your Silent Face.
