I'm picking Heaton as I love the housemartins. I do think he has a better collection as a whole of tunes. McAloon probably has written better songs. I guess it's quality of quantity with McAloon.

Just give 'Song For Whoever' a listen. One of the worst records ever.

Well, I'm more likely to enjoy something Heaton's done, including Beautiful South. I don't 'get' Prefab Sprout.

Then there was that 'Perfect Ten' record and the one about tits. Heaton really is a cunt, as bad as Bragg.

Not everything McAloon has done still stands up - the tail off from Jordan... is tangible - but Steve McQueen is a literate pop masterpiece.
I strongly dislike Heaton - at best it’s inoffensive Radio 2 pop “with an (ugh) edge” at worst it’s downright abysmal dreck. Chairman G is right!

MacAloon appalls me but I more or less shot my bile load at Stumbling Steve Harley. The Housemartins were all right, and I've got the feeling that Heaton is just about the only person I can think of who'd give MES a contest in an obnoxious mouth-off

Can we all agree that everything is shite apart from Billie Holiday and then we can all get together, make love and move on.
