I may have to reassess the first Mamas and Papas album. Seeing a few people pick it, whereas I had started to write them off as really just a few singles type band.

I may have to reassess the first Mamas and Papas album. Seeing a few people pick it, whereas I had started to write them off as really just a few singles type band. They were basically a lot of fine doube-sided singles band, and most of them, A and Bs were released on albums - very few album-exclusive tracks.

I think their second album is "the one" - though I probably wouldn't feel that way if I were Michelle, who inspired its most caustic selections.

The first three are all honey. I wouldn't want to be without any of those, to be sure.

I thought a lot about it and ultimately decided not to include it, not sure why, maybe to avoid being predictable ;-) I like it a lot, and it includes three songs I consider essential in their output (Black Hearted Woman, Dreams and Whipping Post, since you asked). I prefer the second album, and definitely the third, At Filmore East, which is where they truly showed their full potential and their real breakthrough.

Speaking of the Mamas and Papas, this is pretty wonderful:

YEAH it is.
I was thinking of starting an Ms&Ps thread. Don't have time just now, so if anyone wants to beat me to it, go ahead.
