Two trailers that have hit YouTube just in the last few days:
What's going on? Is there some major anniversary I've overlooked?

What's going on? Is there some major anniversary I've overlooked? This is what I'm wondering as well. WHY this particular brand? Why now? (I asked the same thing of the various deluxe editions and iterations of Mind Games that just came out. There's some wheat in that chaff, but...there's also quite a bit of chaff, and none of this seems like it would have market tested in any super encouraging way.) I like John, I like some amount of footage, research, ephemera, etc., but...a sort of deluge of post-Imagine, pre-LA John feels (and, as always, maybe I'm wrong) like far too much of a thing that even the die-hards aren't really asking for. Is the estate (Sean, hypothetically) running a certain defense game against...well, I dunno...what?...the May Pang movie/recent press offensive? Paul's increased profile and regard in this century? Some sense of Yoko (or JOHNANDYOKO) erasure? I feel like there is always an overestimation from those headquarters, regarding just what the public wants/needs (how many times has his relatively concise body of solo work been anthologized?). Was there a sort of cultural shockwave in the Western world when he was killed (at what now TRULY seems like a young age) that maybe created a temporary market for that brand? OR...is there a) a greater demand than I'm perceiving?, or b) maybe a natural flow of "archived ancient history from the rock era while the consumer audience is still with us in some number"? It's not all gonna be Get Back or Summer of Soul, but...seeing as I'm holding movie tickets for One Hand Clapping, should I just be happy that it's all getting exhumed?

I’d wager that two major forces are at play…
- It’s the last bite of the apple for folks with lived memory. There won’t be much more lemon to squeeze when the boomers are gone, so…this is it.
- If you want the next generation to even get the reference, better start educating them now. Get Back was great, but it likely did some lasting damage to Lennon’s future reputation to have the-document-of-record of them as a band showcasing Paul firing on all cylinders at a moment in which John’s attention had begun to drift beyond The Beatles. So…if you’re Sean…you’ve perhaps got some work to do.
Personally, I’m all about it. I STILL think John is the Mona Lisa’s smile. The most enigmatic, fascinating human being rock and roll ever threw our way. As for John & Yoko as a two-headed story of love, art, activism, dysfunction, and finally loss - again…I’m all about it. So yes to all (except that I’m not buying ANY multi-disc expansions of ANY album….cause fuck that).

John was my big brother, role model, favourite Beatle.
I really want to see this daytime TV show with the (also very young) Chuck Berry, and the other thing too.
I bought the expanded Revolver, Pepper, White Album and Abbey Road and don't regret it. I always found them at prices that justified the investment in my mind. But by now, any other 100-plus-quid product can do one...

I really want to see this daytime TV show Rhino released the whole week of shows as a VHS set back in the '90s. I watched the whole thing with one of my best friends. It was an amazing time capsule in so many ways; I'm surprised it never made it to DVD. Even the (many) cringe-y moments were totally worth it. I hope the documentary is.

And does anyone even know what the One To One thing is? The trailer doesn't tell us much.

I think we like “Sometime in New York City” now. Whodda thunk?
John and Yoko really seemed to enjoy doing the Mike Douglas show. I think they even sang with Mike a the end. Not everybody did. It must be said, Mike was.a good host. He really did his best to engage with the people J&Y wanted him to engage with.
As for Why John and Yoko and why now. Why not? I mean, all the explanations in the thread make some sort of sense.
I’m glad I was able to stream stuff like the Mind Games “Elements Mix” I’d be MUCH less philosophical about John & Yoko if I’d spent money on that shit.

I’m glad I was able to stream stuff like the Mind Games “Elements Mix” I must say I'm getting a kick out of the "Evolution Documentary" batch of Mind Games/Everything But the Kitchen Sink Edition. It seems like they have fused together early takes and studio talk with the finished track. Since "Mind Games" is pretty slight to begin I guess to "Special Edition" it they crammed a lot of stuff in.
it's... interesting.
