Were they more? Nothing like The Danse Society, who were a fifth rate Cure! Ok, I guess I know where the answers are going before I even post the poll, but I quite liked them back in the day, especially the Seduction mini album. Could really be credited with being the pioneers of the deep-voice n' synth goth which The Sisters of Mercy ran with. Yeah, I know, bestill your beating hearts. Also: a pre-Dead Or Alive Stock Aitken and Waterman attempt to make goths pop stars that unsurprisingly failed.

Not familiar with them at all, and know very little of The Cure beyond a few singles - I've heard more of Fat Bob with the Banshees than his own band, but having listened to all the ones you posted (!), I can only find a superficial resemblance to the Cure I know, so I can't really vote. I did like the first three, though, especially Wake Up. The SAW thing not so much, althugh I didn't hate it, it just sounded like a different, not so distinct band.
I didn't think the lead vocal was particularly deep: nothing ike the cookie-monster stylee of death metal bands or even Bill Medley's bass-baritone.

It was more a comment about the style, up until that point "goth" bands were largely punk/glam offshoots with fairly high-pitched warblers like Andi Sexgang, Pete Murphy, Gavin Friday etc. Even Andrew Elditch used to squeak like an adolescent every so often, and he was better when he did. Goth became less flashy, less dramatic. More smoke machine n' cider.

Like the first two albums (Have a copy of 'Seduction') Wouldn't compare them to The Cure.. Different animals playing in the same zoo..

I had this single and it did sound a lot like The Cure (in their gloomy Faith/Pornography period).
Anyway of the stuff DF posted 'Wake Up's pretty decent. The rest not so much.
Anyone read John Robb's goth book yet?

Anyone read John Robb's goth book yet? A friend of mine went to a signing event for that book, bought me a signed copy, and posted it to me. Really kind of him. Would've been better if he'd posted it to the house I actually live in, rather than somewhere I lived 15 years ago. I would probably have read it by now, otherwise.
