I don’t typically like to make the death of famous people (even my favorites) about myself. But this really DOES feel kinda like a hit to the solar plexus.
I’m a song guy. Only a handful of songwriters can be truly said to have changed the entire landscape.Kristofferson was in that club. There are vanishingly few artists that I look up to left.

I know him more for his acting than his music really. I thought he was great in 'Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid'.

In 2011, I attended Hardly Strictly Bluegrass in San Francisco and saw Merle Haggard and Kristofferson do a set. It was a masterclass in performing. Here's a couple videos from that show.
HSB is this weekend and the site streams the show if you're interested in seeing this year's show.

Hell, you could narrow it down to a single song. Pick any one of "Me and Bobby McGee", "For the Good Times", "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down", or "Help Me Make It Through the Night", each covered by a remarkably diverse set of artists - including those of the country 'old guard' that were still around. It totally changed the playing field. Like Cash and Dylan and a scant few others, he was in his own universe.

I always loved the guy-the way you do sometimes. I liked his tunes, his singing, his movies... I know the word "authentic" tends to get overused. it's a perfectly good word when it fits. he always seemed like the real deal to me. RIP.
