Legend is often overused but it's absolutely apt in this case. What an extraordinary career. Musically there's so much to discuss, but I'll limit myself to two observations for now. I absolutely love his Brazilian bossa nova album from the 60s. Should be a part of everyone's record collection. Donna Summer's 'State of Independence' is one of the greatest records ever. Amazing life..you can't get more entertaining than this interview. www.gq.com/story/quincy-jones-has-a-story

Yep, what an incredible life in music.
RIP, Mr. Jones, and thank you.

I'm fairly certain I read that GQ interview, but I'll have another go of it, because as I recall, and as you say, it was very entertaining.
Quincy Jones is an odd one to me. When I saw the news on my phone this morning, I had to think about what I knew about the guy, and realised that it wasn't much. I knew he was famous as hell, and I knew about a lot of his production credits, but I really had no idea how he got to be Quincy Delight Jones jr. His wikipedia page lists all of his accomplishments and quickly skims over his career, so it wasn't much help. I'm thinking I'll need to read a bio of some sort, so if anyone has any recommendations...
Anyway, many years ago a friend recommended his albums 'Gula Matari' and 'Walking in Space', which I enjoy but didn't find terribly essential. It has been a while since I've listened to them, though, so I'll have a revisit.
This is a hell of a fun tune, though...

Probably my favorite arrangement/production of his:
And THIS (a cover of a solo single by Chas Jenkel) was a top 40 hit when I was 11:
We had a few of his albums in my house when I was a kid (things like Body Heat, and You've Got it Bad Girl) which were generally state of the art mid seventies "lite-jazz funk" (I say this in no pejorative way, cause I like this sort of thing). I mean, TELL me this isn't a banger:

This is a hell of a fun tune, though... Wow, I don't know that at all. Really good.
