Both are sonically unattractive and unpleasant to me.

I hope nobody ever makes me listen to either of these songs ever again. Is this what being American sounds like?

a I thought this was all right, without ever really engaging my interest at all. I tend to the view that RN was definitely in the songwriter who sang group, rather than the other way round. There's something deeply unarresting about his voice: doesn't offend, but doesn't really engage, either. I didn't really notice the song or the famous sidemen. The whole thing chugs by in a harmless enough way, though. 4 / 10
b seeing as I'm one of the two or three dozen weird Brits who thought that Revere & the Raiders were a great 1960s group, I was intrigued by this pick – I know nothing of Lindsay's solo career. That's a pretty ripe 70s’ rock riff to begin with, and the gweetar solo is likewise mired in its era, but Lindsay does sell the song and himself, pretty well. Sure, it's generic, but within its genre, it holds its own. 4 / 10
