I do like Amen Corner's Paradise and hearing it as it was conceived, in Italian and with a female voice, is an improvement. A is nice and inoffensive, but

Both are rich in Vitamin Meh. At least the second one sounds like something I could wave my beer mug along to. B.

Both ghastly. I’ll give it to Johnny Foreigner as I am a Remainer.

Definitely
A
which is great enough to win on its own merits (TVPs are just crazy overlooked) but helped by that other track being absolute la-la rubbish.

A - I love the TVPs, not least because I made a hell of a lot of money selling off their stuff on Discogs, but this is a long way from being the one I would have chosen. It's a bit too sophisticated for my knuckle-dragging taste, with a more cluttered arrangement and a certain striving for technical excellence that I don't really associate with the band. I was hoping for better, but still, 5 / 10 b - Amen corner were pants, weren't they, and the tautologous translated lyric makes no fucking sense at all. This sn't bad, but unfortunately it runs into my prejudice against the general naffness of all European (including British) pop in the 1960s because the producers didn't have a clue. 4.5 / 10

A has got this really annoying acoustic strum-n-drum thing going on, which, together with the over-ethereal vocal, is enough to bury the fucker in my estimation.
I nearly included a Lucio Battisti song - Mio Canto Libero - in my list but offed it at the last moment in light of its occasionally prog-saccharine leanings. It's easily, easily, easily you,

I've never heard Amen Corner so I have no idea what you're all on about, but it doesn't matter 'cause B isn't very interesting at all and I can't even imagine why anyone would think it'd be a worthwhile tune to cover.
By default...

A has a fuller production than earlier TVPs stuff and they're clearly not at their peak, there's not much beyond the weediness, but there's still some ragged, amateur charm in Treacy's singing and writing. B needed to spend a lot more time clicking through Youtube channels of vintage Mediterranean pop. All the great stuff they could have found and they settled for this. Not buying it.

I can't believe this was as close as it was. some tactical voting probably because most thought the TVPs choice was mine. they are running scared.
